av Firefox user 17761284, 2 år sidanEDIT: dev response is wrong, i understand what dearrow is, i read the description of the addon before i paid for it LOL. the problem is that it sucks at doing what it says it does for fundamental reasons.
clickbait = "sensational and unappealing packaging (the titles and thumbnails)" and tons of clickbait thumbnails and titles get through dearrow because this addon requires users of an addon who're allergic to clickbait already to willingly submit themselves to enduring low quality content in order to submit a new relevant title and thumbnail and remove said clickbait with dearrow. it just won't happen and prevents the addon from working as intended
dev, i recommend removing the crowdsourcing element of this addon *or* merely asking for donations instead of outright payment. you can't do both and you can't expect people to pay you to do work for you. a refund is actually kind of a ridiculous thing to offer. you want me to hop in your email to beg for a dollar? get real LOL. when you ask for payment you invite criticism and a refund is not relevant.
original review below --------------------------------------
I paid a dollar for this app expecting to remove the clickbait from my Youtube experience but instead most of the actual clickbait (content farm videos with 1mil+ views) continue to appear unaltered while the titles from any even mildly popular genuine video creator get stripped of all creativity and even narratively spoiled in some cases.
the problem is fundamental due to the fact that this app is crowdsourced and because most of the actual clickbait is from channels that are so low quality that even the users of this app don't want to put in the effort to fix it. meanwhile the videos people actually put effort into get neutered because some geek thought the title wasn't definitionally accurate enough.
that's another thing, why are we paying to crowdsource our work? i only realized i was paying to work after i forked it over so shame on me i guess but it certainly left a slimy taste in my mouth afterwards.

You seem to be looking for something different from what DeArrow is.
DeArrow at the moment is not for filtering and hiding videos that are low quality, but instead of about reducing sensationalism in all videos (the high quality ones too). You seem to be looking for something very different, which is fine.
When I look at my YouTube feed, I see many high quality videos created by great people. The problem is that they are all obscured by sensational and unappealing packaging (the titles and thumbnails).
The goal of DeArrow is to be able to look at that feed of already high quality videos without having to deal with the current sensationalist title/thumbnail trends and know what which of those videos to choose from based on what their actual content is.
I hope that makes the purpose more clear :)

YouTube changed the layout causing the extension to replace thumbnails with blank spaces. I have fixed this in 2.1.7, but unfortunately Firefox is slow at reviewing updates.
This will take a few days to appear on the extension store. On Firefox, it could take up to 14 days, but you can switch to the beta version by clicking "FirefoxSignedInstaller" in the release (https://github.com/ajayyy/DeArrow/releases/tag/2.1.7). Make sure to backup your data and only have one extension enabled at once if you choose to do that.
While you wait on the old version, you can disable thumbnail replacements to see the original thumbnail instead of a blank space. - Vurdering: 5 av 5av SDM, 2 månader sidanworked well for a while, then it broke.
Edit; Dev fixed it, add-on works well, not perfect but helps cut down the insanely over embellished nature of YouTube thumbnails/titles.Svar frå utviklaren

I don't think there's any reason other than the developer wishing to justify monetizing crowd-sourced software.
EDIT: response to developer - I would wager that the vast majority of this addon's users don't care about the title change feature (indeed, I quickly disabled it). I also don't see how Clickbait Remover predating Arrow excuses Arrow being over-engineered - if anything, that makes it worse (a simple solution was demonstrated, yet it was decided to build an incredibly convoluted alternative)Svar frå utviklaren
posta 3 månader sidanClickbait remover is a great extension that was made before dearrow. If you prefer that simple approach, it's made for you
The crowdsourcing in dearrow is more about titles than thumbnails, which is something clickbait remover is not able to deal with.
Response to edit: I'm not sure I understand your point. If you don't think crowdsourcing is beneficial to you, you should use the other extension. The whole point of this extension is for the crowdsourcing, so most people using this extension are do have those enabled. - Vurdering: 2 av 5av random user, 3 månader sidanAwkward semi-paid scheme, especially for a crowdsourced project. That alone makes me not want to contribute since the dev might at an point decide to remove access.
The replaced thumbnails are very hit and miss. Replacing clickbait is one thing, but this extension just want to replace all of them indiscriminatingly, removing useful information. Quite a bit are literally just replaced with blank images or other junk...Svar frå utviklaren
posta 3 månader sidanBy default, most thumbnails are replaced with random screenshots to try to let you get a sense of what the video is like. This can be changed in the settings to show the original thumbnails instead of you prefer them.
All the crowdsourced data is public and under a creative commons license (https://sponsor.ajay.app/database). The code is also fully open source under the GPL. The magic of open source is that anyone can continue the project or fork it to their own desire. - Vurdering: 5 av 5av Bryn, 3 månader sidan

Only downside is that after using it for some time, you realise that most of what reaches the front page is just slop. I happily paid for DeArrow as it has made the youtube experience much better for filtering good content out of the slop.
