av urGoh, 3 dagar sidanSeems to be working okay for me, but what I don't like is having the tab visible all the time. Would be great to at least have an additional "search only" visibility option, or even better, no tab at all but a clickable pinned Toolbar icon instead.

posta 3 dagar sidanHi. Thanks for the review.
There is a way to adjust where it shows up in the options, under 'Visibility'. Right now the minimum one is on "Home and Search" pages which should be the default.
But it's a fair point. I could later add a few other ways of enabling/disabling it easier. Thanks for the feedback.

i do have some nitpicks though, it seems to slow down gradually going through chunks (yes i have chunks on 1 day and unsaftey on)
this means i downloaded in batches around a year each time, but i noticed that when scrolling through results while its running, it seems to mess up the ordering, and when looking at the exported json, the timestamp numbers do go in correct order, but then sometimes are incorrect
and lastly i cant seem to get it to show or retrive shorts.
but other than those main points there isnt much to complain about after youtube screwed us over so hard and i appreciate this very muchSvar frå utviklaren

I did not do extensive testing on very large search results like you seem to be doing, so I can not be sure on the stability of the tool when making databases of that size. In truth it was meant for more targeted results (The original purpose was to restore the ability to find most recent results after all). So if your database is collecting 10-100k+ results, yeah I would expected it to slow down, as I didn't plan for that or try to do anything to help it use databases of size more efficiently.
Something I could do to help databases of this size is to actually outright REMOVE the options its filtering out so they are not in the database at all. This would probably be the easiest solution to help very large databases being built be more efficient. It also does not help that it loads EVERY option of the database on the page at once, rather then in chunks or pages right now either. This is another reason 'unsafty' is off by default. I will give it some consideration.
I'm not sure I understand what the issues you are having with shorts are though. Since you seem to have manually set up your settings, I assume you have them set appropriately to get shorts, so I'm not really sure what you mean is happening with that. Best advice I can give is make sure you don't have the filter for shorts on and are using 'mixed' mode if you are wanting to get videos and shorts in the same search.
My best advice is to try and make your searches a little bit more targeted if you can to keep the experience a bit smoother. Either with more targeted search terms (with required or excluded terms) or smaller time sizes. Also I would be cautious doing HUGE searches like that for fear of flagging Youtube to suspicious activity. A few hundred or thousands of results at a time is likely fine, but lots of searches getting tens of thousand or more using these methods might be something that starts getting flagged somehow. More as a precaution.
Even with all the issues you have had though I am happy you are getting some use out of the tool. I will likely update and modify it a bit, but that update is likely at least a month or two away. Unless there is something outright crippling the tool happening. - Vurdering: 1 av 5av AN, ein dag sidanFinds nothing relevant and instead pulls in a bunch of unrelated garbage. The whole thing feels overengineered for what should be a simple function. Doesn’t deliver on its core promise and just clutters the interface.

posta ein dag sidan1 star feels a bit harsh.
There was never a claim made that it fixes the results Youtube provides, the tool is to help filter and sort out the garbage. It still has to utilize the results YouTube gives you with your search.
To get better results out of the gate make sure you are using good search terms, like using quotations. But again, regardless of the search term; YouTube will still provide junk because that's what YouTube spits out. Harvesort is just collects all the results in a local database and is allowing you to filter based on the metadata avaliable. Its not actually checking the content for relevance of the results because that's not as easily done; mostly because YouTube does not readily provide this metadata.
It's still better then searching YouTube with their filters that actively inject shorts when you are searching videos, don't really sort in any given order that makes sense, or provides you a list of the same things over and over. Harvesort can find ALL the results of a search if you turn on 'unsafty' mode. You can find results of any given time period in YouTube's history. Good luck getting YouTube's base results to do that unless you know exactly what you are looking for.
I plan to at some point add a way to make sure what you are searching is actually related to the title of the video in some way. But that will introduce issues of its own still.
The tool may not be for you, but but it works for what it is, and 1 star is a choice related to your expectations. It sounds like your complaints are with what YouTube does natively already with your search results, not with filtering them.
Also, you don't specify what the 'simple function' you want is. Is it a replacement to 'sort by date'? If so then yeah, its overengineered for that. It kind of had to be because they outright removed the filter to do it. I will never claim this is a clean solution to that problem. But it does work to provide a solution. - Vurdering: 5 av 5av Firefox-brukar 19744211, 3 dagar sidanAs of Feb 15th, this seems to work... despite other reviews?
Solve my main issue of sort-by-date getting removed on youtube. Has options that does a lot more to. Could be better with results filtering unrelated results but that is just youtube for you. At least I can find new fresh content again. Svar frå utviklaren

This new tool should be far more powerful for searches. Please update and give it a go. It should be able to do what you were using the old add-on for, and a lot more... for as long as it is allowed to work. - Vurdering: 4 av 5av Firefox-brukar 18514811, 22 dagar sidanYouTube completely removed the ability to filter through URL, rendering this useless. Was a good run.
