Better Start turns your browser’s new tab into a clean, fast, and distraction-free start page. It lets you open your favorite sites with short commands, search from a single input, and check the time and weather at a glance — all without clutter.

Key Features

Command-Based Link Grid
Assign short commands to your favorite sites (for example, g for GitHub, t for Translate, r for Reddit). You can add, edit, hide, or delete links from a simple settings panel, reorder visible links via drag and drop, and keep hidden commands usable through search without showing them in the grid.

Smart Search and Commands
One input does everything: open URLs directly, search with your preferred engine such as DuckDuckGo, Google, or Brave, and use search templates to search inside specific sites (for example, “r frontend” to search Reddit). Optional search history suggestions can be remembered across sessions.

Clock Widget
Toggle between 12- and 24-hour formats, optionally show the date and seconds, and display secondary time zones such as London or New York in a smaller size, including a day indicator when the date differs.

Weather Widget
Automatically detect your location or set a custom city. Switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit, optionally display humidity, wind, and UV index, and hover to see a compact 3-day forecast.

Theme System
Choose from built-in themes including System, Light, Dark, Catppuccin, and High Contrast. Power users can use the advanced theme editor to fine-tune background, text, subtle text, and accent colors, save them as a Custom theme, and apply them across the page.

Settings and Data
A clean, organized settings panel groups options into Widgets, Search, Links, Theme, and Data. You can export and import all settings as JSON, including custom links and their order, or reset everything to default with a single click.
