Privacy Policy – NoNoise
Last updated: 27 February 2026
NoNoise is a browser extension designed to help users reduce online distractions and create a more focused browsing experience by hiding distracting content, blocking selected websites, and applying user-controlled visual and behavior-based filters.
Your privacy is extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what data NoNoise handles, how it is used, and what information is not collected.
Information We Do Not Collect
NoNoise does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data.
We do not collect:
Browsing history
Visited website URLs
Search queries
Login credentials
Messages, posts, or form data
IP addresses
Location data
Device identifiers
Usage analytics or telemetry
NoNoise does not use cookies, trackers, analytics services, advertising networks, fingerprinting techniques, or profiling systems.
Information Stored Locally
NoNoise stores only user-defined preferences locally within the browser using the browser’s built-in storage system. This information never leaves the user’s device.
Locally stored data may include:
Feature toggles such as hiding feeds, shorts, reels, comments, or recommendations
Global settings such as blocking images, blocking videos, or enabling grayscale mode
Video playback speed preferences
User-defined website blocklists
Settings related to adult and gambling site blocking
How the Extension Works
NoNoise modifies webpage display and behavior in real time based on the options selected by the user.
Some features apply globally across all websites, such as blocking images, blocking videos, grayscale mode, video speed control, and website blocking.
Other features are site-specific, such as controls for YouTube or Facebook.
All processing happens locally inside the user’s browser.
Remote Blocklists (Public GitHub Files)
NoNoise periodically checks publicly available blocklist files hosted on GitHub that contain lists of adult and gambling-related websites. These files are simple text-based lists used only to refresh filtering rules inside the extension.
Blocklist updates are performed automatically at regular intervals using the browser’s built-in scheduling system.
No browsing history, visited website information, personal data, identifiers, or user activity is transmitted when these files are fetched.
The extension does not report which websites a user visits and does not send any user-generated data to any remote server.
Video Playback Control
NoNoise may control HTML5 video playback speed on supported websites. This feature operates entirely within the browser and does not collect, analyze, or transmit video content or user data.
Permissions Explanation
NoNoise requests only the minimum permissions required to provide its functionality.
Storage permission is used to save user preferences locally.
Alarms permission is used to run scheduled refreshes for remote blocklist updates.
Website access permission is used to hide or modify page elements, block websites, apply global features such as blocking images or videos, enable grayscale mode, and enforce user-defined and remote blocklists.
All permissions are used solely to provide the extension’s features. All processing happens locally within the browser.
Third-Party Services
NoNoise does not integrate with third-party analytics, tracking services, advertising platforms, or external data processing services.
No user data is shared with any third party.
Data Security
Because NoNoise does not transmit personal data to any server, there is no centralized user database. All functionality operates locally within the user’s browser environment.
Children’s Privacy
NoNoise is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.
Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect feature changes or legal requirements. The most recent version will always be available on the extension’s store listing.
