v1.0 Adds options to the popup button icon! You can now choose between three options: fixed light image, fixed shadow image, and random mode when opening tabs.

This add-on only changes the background image each time a new tab is opened. It was implemented as an extension because static Firefox themes do not support user interactions or event-based actions.
