YouTube Auto-Pause Autor: Peter Wan

yt-autopause is a simple extension meant to assist with automatically pausing both regular YouTube videos and YouTube Shorts under the following scenarios:

1. When switching between tabs within the browser.
2. When switching between different windows.

Resuming a video

In addition to automatically pausing both videos and shorts, yt-autopause offers some granularity with regards to resuming a video. Each pause scenario has its own independent auto-resume setting:

1. Tab switching — when enabled, returning to a YouTube tab will automatically resume the video from where it left off.
2. Window blur — when enabled, refocusing the browser window will automatically resume the video.

Both settings are enabled by default and can be toggled independently from the extension popup.

Shortcuts

yt-autopause can be controlled without interacting with the popup menu directly:

• F8 — toggles yt-autopause on or off on any YouTube page. If the popup menu is not already open, it will appear
  to provide a visual confirmation of the current state.
• Esc — closes the popup menu.

Availability

yt-autopause targets browsers that support the WebExtensions API with Manifest V3. The following browsers are in scope:

Google Chrome: Intended
Mozilla Firefox: Approved
Microsoft Edge: Intended
Opera: Intended

Firefox is the primary browser this extension has been developed and tested against. Chrome, Edge, and Opera are intended targets given their support for the WebExtensions API, but have not been formally verified
