Hawk Translate is a fast, distraction-free translation and language-learning companion for Firefox. Highlight any text on any website and you get an instant translation, a natural-voice pronunciation, and — for single words — grammar and synonyms to grow your vocabulary.

What you can do
Select and translate. Highlight text; a compact bubble shows the translation right next to your selection.
Listen. Click the 🔊 speaker to hear the original or the translation in a natural voice. Click twice on the same text for a slower repeat — great for pronunciation practice.
Learn vocabulary. When you select a single word, Hawk shows its part of speech (noun / verb / adjective…) and synonyms, so you see the whole word family at a glance.
Full-text popup. Click the toolbar icon to type or paste any text, pick your target language, and translate.
Right-click menu. Translate any selection with a right-click — no mouse travel.
Multiple translation backends — no key required
Hawk Translate works out of the box with zero setup. Pick your preferred service in Options:

Google — free, default, fast, high quality
MyMemory — free, no key, ~5,000 words per day
DeepL — bring your own free key (500k chars/month)
Microsoft Azure Translator — bring your own free key (2M chars/month)
LibreTranslate — open-source; configure your own endpoint
If your chosen backend fails, an inline "Try with…" chooser instantly retries with another provider — no settings trip required.

Designed for language learners
A speaker on both the source and the translation lets you hear the original language as well as understand it.
The Word families panel reveals nuance: seeing synonyms grouped by part of speech builds vocabulary faster than a flat translation.

Your controls
Theme: Auto / Light / Dark for popup and bubble.
Bubble style: Classic (compact) or Card (original and translation, each with its own speaker).
Auto-close: bubble dismisses itself after a few seconds — hover to pause. Configurable from 0 (off) to 120 seconds.
When to show the bubble: a small hawk icon you click, instantly on selection, or only via popup / right-click.
Supported languages
50+ translation languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, Thai, Turkish, Indonesian, Ukrainian, Polish, Dutch, and more. Extension metadata localized in 20 languages.

Privacy
Hawk Translate does not collect or transmit any personal data to the developer. The text you translate is sent only to the provider you chose (Google, MyMemory, DeepL, Azure, or LibreTranslate). API keys you enter for DeepL, Azure, or LibreTranslate are stored locally in your browser and are never transmitted anywhere except to that provider's own servers for the requests you make.
