Smart Bookmarks is designed to respect your privacy. This policy describes how we handle your data.

1. Data Collection and Usage: We do not collect, store, or sell your personal data, browsing history, or bookmark lists on our own servers. The Extension runs entirely within your browser.
   What we access:
2. Bookmarks: The Extension reads the Title and URL of the specific bookmark you are saving in order to categorize it. It does not scan your existing library unless you explicitly trigger it.
3. Settings: Your API keys (OpenAI/Gemini/DeepSeek) and preferences are stored locally on your device using the browser's Native Storage API (storage.sync or storage.local). They are never transmitted to the developer.
4. AI Processing & Third Parties
   To perform auto-categorization, the Extension must process the text of your bookmark's title and URL. This happens in one of two ways, depending on your choice:
5. Local Processing (Ollama): If you choose the "Ollama" provider, your data never leaves your local network. It is processed entirely on your machine via localhost.
6. Cloud Processing (OpenAI, Google Gemini, DeepSeek): If you choose a cloud provider, the Extension sends the Title and URL directly from your browser to the chosen provider's API. This data is subject to the privacy policy of the respective AI provider (e.g., OpenAI Privacy Policy). The Extension acts as a direct client; data does not pass through any intermediate server owned by the developer.
7. Permissions
   The Extension requests the following permissions for functional purposes only:
8. bookmarks: Required to organize and move your bookmarks into folders.
9. storage: Required to save your API keys securely on your device.
10. host_permissions: Required to allow the Extension to communicate directly with the AI API endpoints (e.g., api.openai.com, generativelanguage.googleapis.com).
