I want to some do more extensive testing and try and get some actual average stats depending on chat size and such (hard to do without exporting your data and then mapping out which chat is which length... all for an extension review) and see how much they match what is reported by the extension itself but so far it seems roughly accurate from what I have been seeing.

Note, I have it hold 30 messages. I believe the default is 20. If you follow the default then you'll have better results obviously but I need to go back and forth between earlier messages a lot.

I also have adblockers and a slightly modified about:config, mostly to disable and spoof location data for a whole other thing that probably doesn't impact memory usage but might. If it did, well, it'd probably impact it the same between both example results.


I tried to do some genuine testing to see if it had any real impact. First thing I did was find a very, very long chat. I figured, extreme cases would show the potential effect (or lack of effect) the most. Obviously the impact is going to matter on the length of your chat. This was one that reached "ok ChatGPT you're messing things up because I may have pushed your context window a bit too far."

I monitored both about:processes (which doesnt give enough detail. Though I would like to do some testing later to see if the extension impacts the CPU spikes ChatGPT also causes. You'd be surprised if you watched what it does there) so I cant comment on that yet as it's trickier to measure. I also, more usefully, monitored about:memory doing a "Measure" of memory between changes.

Now, again, this is with an extreme example of a very long chat, yet isn't that where we all run into problems? And this isn't even with the most conservative settings (30 messages instead of 20 kept in memory.)

The results are quite significant if you have extremely long chats like I do. I'm the kind of person who finds myself realizing "oh, context window is losing things, go back a few messages, make ChatGPT summarize itself, start a new window"

You obviously wont see dramatic results if your chats are small. If you only show 20 messages of a 30 message chat... that's not going to be a massive difference.

I do think there have to be a lot more ways to optimize ChatGPT. It is insane that it uses that much memory for what is mostly text and React components, but I'm not gonna sit here asking for more that's just me spitballing when the extension does a good job.

A lot of words to say "obviously it varies, yet in the extreme cases of very long chats where many of us need an extension like this because we start running into memory issues it absolutely does its job and shows a significant, measurable benefit. It does what it says it does and it does it well"

I'll update this if I do more tests and find out anything more.

The plugin works perfectly for me. ChatGPT is working again! Despite having 64 GB of RAM and a decent CPU, it had been practically unusable for quite some time - until now, that is. Thank you, Dev! Amazing work!

the app has only two issues i have found.
1- it often forgets information from any non rendered chat (understandable, yet can be frustrating)
2- there is some input lag when the chat is particularly long. the more messages that are not "rendered" the worse it gets

otherwise this is a solid extension. it fixes the slowness of longer chats to near instant speed

This was great until a few weeks ago. All of the sudden it started talking to some non-chatgpt servers. Not sure what it's doing with my data but I definitely wouldn't trust it. There are plenty of other free options that do the same thing and don't send your data anywhere.

I use chatGPT excessively for research, coding, and in-depth analyses with a lot of "remembering". Even after adding chatGPT to the task bar, having it more isolated from the regular firefox windows, it start to slow down after a while, freezes and eats all my memory.
This addon is just perfect. It reduces visibly unnecessary long chat to the most recent parts, which simply already frees more memory. Great!
I haven't hit the prompt limitation yet. But a one-time purchase for the pro should be ok imo

It makes ChatGPT with long chats useable again. I'm happy to pay the small Pro fee to make sure the dev keeps working on this excellent extension.

EDIT: The developer reached out to me and the issue was resolved.

This extension was good until the developer locked it behind a paywall. I reinstall the OS often on my devices, so having this paywall means I have to pay $7.99 every three times I reinstall a device.

I dont understand som person below complaining about permissions - it only lists Freemius as OPTIONAL.. Freemius is a legit payment provider for checking license keys.. relax people.. this extension ROCKS!

I've actually just paid for this extension and I've never bought an extension before in my life. ChatGPT can become absolutely unuseable with long chats and this seems to resolve that issue, I no longer have to keep duplicating tabs. Fantastic.

Excellent Dev Support. Love this extension! A concern- the recent update gives me a warning message about Speed Booster Update Required. When I click on Fix Issue, a new screen comes up that requires me to Grant Permissions in my browser. I want to believe it's a legit request from the Dev but it hits me in the "old school popup spam window" feels and I want to touch base and make sure that's expected behavior before I click it.

This extension is amazing! I work on complex programming projects with chats of over 1200 messages, and before this, my browser would constantly freeze. This tool is the best solution on the market right now for the "lag" problem. It's highly recommended for anyone managing professional or long-term projects in ChatGPT. This extension has saved me so many problems. As a person that has LOTS of long chats (some chats are several months long), I was constantly running into issues with performance. With this plugin, those problems are gone. Absolute must have plugin for anyone else with long chats.
