Privacy Policy for MediaFusion Browser Extension

Overview

The MediaFusion Browser Extension ("the Extension") is designed to help users easily contribute torrents to MediaFusion instances. This privacy policy explains how the Extension handles user data and protects user privacy.

Data Collection

What We DON'T Collect

• Personal Information: We do not collect names, email addresses, or any personal identifiers
• Browsing History: We do not track or store your browsing history
• Torrent Content: We do not store or analyze the content of torrents you upload
• Usage Analytics: We do not collect usage statistics or analytics
• Cookies: We do not use cookies or similar tracking technologies

What We DO Store Locally

The Extension stores the following information locally in your browser only:
- MediaFusion URL: The URL of your MediaFusion instance
- Uploader Name: Your preferred uploader name (if provided)
- API Password: Your MediaFusion API password (if required)
- Extension Settings: User preferences and configuration options

Data Storage

Local Storage Only

All user data is stored locally in your browser using the browser's built-in storage API. This data:
- Never leaves your device
- Is not transmitted to our servers
- Is not shared with third parties
- Can be deleted by uninstalling the extension

No External Servers

The Extension does not use any external servers or databases. All functionality is contained within the extension itself.

Data Transmission

MediaFusion Communication

The Extension communicates directly with your configured MediaFusion instance to:
- Upload torrent files and magnet links
- Retrieve metadata and search results
- Authenticate with your instance (if required)

This communication:
- Goes directly from your browser to your MediaFusion instance
- Does not pass through our servers
- Uses the same security protocols as your MediaFusion instance
- Is subject to your MediaFusion instance's privacy policy

No Third-Party Services

The Extension does not communicate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks.

Permissions

The Extension requests the following browser permissions:

Storage Permission

• Purpose: Store your settings locally in your browser
• Data: MediaFusion URL, uploader name, API password, preferences
• Scope: Local browser storage only

Active Tab Permission

• Purpose: Detect torrent and magnet links on the current webpage
• Data: Current page content analysis for torrent links
• Scope: Only the currently active tab when extension is used

Host Permissions (http:/// and https:///)

• Purpose: Communicate with your MediaFusion instance
• Data: Torrent files, magnet links, and metadata
• Scope: Only your configured MediaFusion instance URL

Scripting Permission (Chrome only)

• Purpose: Inject upload buttons into torrent site pages
• Data: Page modification to add functionality
• Scope: Only on pages where torrent links are detected

Data Security

Local Security

• Settings are stored using browser's secure storage APIs
• API passwords are stored using browser's encrypted storage when available
• No data is transmitted in plain text to untrusted sources

Communication Security

• All communication with MediaFusion instances respects the instance's security settings
• HTTPS is used when available and configured
• No man-in-the-middle data collection

User Rights

Data Access

You can access all your stored data through the Extension's settings panel.

Data Deletion

You can delete your data by:
- Clearing individual settings in the Extension popup
- Uninstalling the Extension (removes all stored data)
- Using your browser's extension data clearing features

Data Portability

Your settings are stored in standard browser storage and can be exported using browser developer tools if needed.

Children's Privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Open Source Transparency

The Extension is open source, and you can review the complete source code at:

MediaFusion Instances

Torrent Sites

The Extension operates on various torrent sites but:
- Does not modify the sites' privacy practices
- Does not collect additional data beyond what the sites already have access to
- Only reads publicly available torrent information

Data Retention

• Local Settings: Retained until you clear them or uninstall the Extension
• Temporary Data: Any temporary processing data is cleared when the Extension closes
• No Server Data: We don't retain any data on servers as we don't operate any

International Data Transfers

Since all data is stored locally in your browser:
- No international data transfers occur through our systems
- Any data transfer happens directly between your browser and your MediaFusion instance
- Transfer security depends on your MediaFusion instance's configuration

Automated Decision Making

The Extension does not use automated decision making or profiling that would significantly affect users.
