...every time I open Firefox, it insists on opening a tab with instructions how to use it. There does not appear to be an option to prevent this obnoxious behavior.

I had to disable this add-on due to the fac t that whenever I highlighted anything on a webpage, it thought it was supposed to translate it and it would open up a dialog window. I found this incredibly frustrating. Maybe you should make it so it is activated through the context menu instead. I would REALLY like to have a translation module I can use instead of Google Translate

es excelente, para cuando se quiere leer documentos o foros que están en ingles, y no sabes una frase, lo traduce de inmediato.
En vez de andar abriendo una pagina con google translate, este add on lo hace mucho mas fácil
