Japanese Text-to-Speech Extension Documentation

Overview

This Firefox extension allows users to convert selected Japanese text into spoken audio using the ElevenLabs Text-to-Speech API. A convenient speaker button appears whenever text is selected, providing instant access to audio pronunciation.

Initial Setup

Before using the extension, you must configure your API credentials:

1. Click the Firefox menu (≡) and select "Add-ons and Themes"
2. Find the Japanese Text-to-Speech extension in your list of installed add-ons
3. Click the "Options" or "Preferences" button
4. Enter your:
5. ElevenLabs API Key
6. Preferred Voice ID
7. Click "Save"

Note: You'll need an ElevenLabs account and API key to use this extension. Visit ElevenLabs website to obtain these.

How to Use

1. Select any Japanese text on a webpage
2. A speaker icon will appear above your selection
3. Click the speaker icon to generate and play the audio
4. Wait briefly while the audio is being generated
5. The pronunciation will play automatically once ready

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues:

1. Verify your API key and Voice ID are correctly entered in the extension settings
2. Ensure you have an active internet connection
3. Check that the selected text is valid Japanese text
4. Make sure your browser's audio playback is enabled
5. Confirm you have remaining credits in your ElevenLabs account

Privacy Notice

This extension:
- Only processes text that you explicitly select
- Only sends data to ElevenLabs when you click the speaker button
- Does not store or collect any personal data
- Does not track your browsing history
