1. Introduction Welcome to Rtube Watch Party. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a safe, synchronized viewing experience with your friends. This Privacy Policy explains how our browser extension operates, what data is processed, and how we protect your information. By using the Rtube Watch Party extension, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Data Collection and Synchronization Rtube Watch Party is designed to synchronize video playback between you and your friends. To achieve this, the extension connects to our temporary synchronization server via secure WebSockets (WSS).
What we DO NOT collect:
We DO NOT collect, track, or store your browsing history.
We DO NOT collect personal information (PII), IP addresses for tracking, names, emails, or analytics data.
The extension remains completely inactive until you explicitly click "Create Lobby", "Paste and Join", or "Activate on this site".
What data is processed (Ephemeral Data): When you are in an active lobby, the following data is transmitted to our synchronization server strictly for the purpose of keeping the video in sync:
A randomly generated Room ID and Password.
Video playback status (Current timestamp, Play/Pause state).
The current video URL (only within the active lobby).
Data Retention: All synchronization data is stored temporarily in the server's RAM (memory). As soon as all users leave the lobby, or after a period of inactivity, the room and all associated data are permanently and instantly deleted. We do not use databases to store user sync data.
3. Required Browser Permissions and Their Usage To function correctly, Rtube Watch Party requires specific browser permissions. We strictly adhere to the principle of least privilege and use these permissions solely for the extension's core functionality:
Storage: Used locally on your device to save your language preference, lobby status, and basic UI settings.
Tabs & ActiveTab: Used to identify the active video player tab so the extension knows which video to synchronize.
Scripting: Used to safely inject the synchronization script into the video page only when you explicitly activate the extension.
ClipboardRead: Used strictly within the extension's popup to allow the "Paste and Join" button to read the Room ID and Password from your clipboard. We do not read your clipboard in the background.
Notifications: Used to display local system alerts if the connection to the lobby is lost or requires your attention.
4. Third-Party Services Rtube Watch Party operates on top of third-party video platforms (such as YouTube, Netflix, etc.). We do not control these platforms, and your interaction with them is governed by their respective privacy policies. Our extension does not share any of your sync data with these platforms.
5. Data Security All communication between your browser and our synchronization server is encrypted using secure WebSockets. Because we do not store data permanently and operate purely on ephemeral data, there is no risk of data breaches involving your personal information.
6. Children's Privacy Our extension does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone under the age of 13. Since we do not collect personal data at all, children's privacy is inherently protected.
7. Changes to This Policy We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our extension's functionality or regulatory requirements. Any updates will be posted on this page, and the "Effective Date" at the top will be updated accordingly.
