UnTrap is an all-in-one YouTube productivity toolkit. It helps users stay focused, cut distractions, and use YouTube more intentionally. Beyond simply hiding Shorts, video suggestions, or comment sections, UnTrap provides advanced customization tools to redesign the YouTube interface, filter content by keywords, set time limits, and manage viewing habits. For deeper focus and efficiency, UnTrap also offers AI-based video summarization, enabling users to save time and learn faster.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that all data handling is transparent, minimal, and secure.

Permissions Required

To function as intended, UnTrap requires the following browser permissions:
▪ activeTab: To access and modify the contents of the currently active tab.
▪ Access to domains such as www.youtube.com and m.youtube.com: To apply layout customizations, hide distractions, and filter content.

These permissions are used strictly to implement features locally on your device.

Data Collection

After installation, UnTrap runs locally on your device.

All core interface customization features work locally in your browser.

Some technical requests may be made to our servers, for example to check for configuration updates or service limits. These requests do not include personal data unless you choose to create an account or use optional cloud-based features such as cross-device sync or AI-based video summarization.

Users may optionally create an account to access two features that require cloud processing:
▪ Cross-device sync of settings
▪ AI-based video summarization

If you create an account, we may process and store:
▪ Account email and authentication data (stored securely).
▪ User settings (e.g., layout, filters, time limits), only if sync is enabled.
▪ Video summaries are processed and stored on our servers only if the user enables the summarization feature.
▪ When using AI-based video summarization, the URL of the current YouTube video may be transmitted to our servers so that a summary can be generated.
▪ Summaries are saved anonymously and are not linked to user identities.

We do not store:
▪ Users’ general browsing history
▪ Watched videos
▪ Personally identifiable usage behavior

Only the URL of the current YouTube video may be transmitted when the user explicitly requests AI-based video summarization.

All communication is encrypted (via HTTPS). You can delete your account or synced data at any time from the extension settings.

Data Processing Without Collection

Some information is processed locally on your device but never collected or transmitted:
▪ Language settings – to display the extension in your preferred language.
▪ Device type (e.g., laptop or mobile) – to provide device-specific options.
▪ User settings – such as layout preferences, filters, and time limits, stored only in your browser.

User Consent

UnTrap can be used without creating an account for a local-only experience.

A privacy consent dialog is shown when you choose to create an UnTrap account and use cloud-based features. This dialog explains what data may be processed and stored for those features.

Consent is required before personal data is sent to our servers for optional account-based or cloud-based features.

User Control

You retain full control over your data:
▪ Use UnTrap without an account for a local-only experience.
▪ Delete your cloud data or account at any time from the extension settings.
▪ Adjust or reset extension settings from within the extension.

UnTrap can be used without creating an account. All core interface customization features operate locally in your browser.

UnTrap does not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

Detectability by Websites

UnTrap modifies YouTube by injecting CSS and JavaScript to hide or change interface elements. While this may be technically visible to the website, UnTrap does not intentionally expose identifying information beyond what is necessary for the extension to function.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this policy as the extension evolves. Any changes will be posted here with a new effective date.
