🔊 Aar318's Live Chat TTS: Customizable Live Chat Text-to-Speech

Listen to Twitch, Kick, and YouTube Live chat while you watch. Live Chat TTS reads newly arriving messages aloud with your browser's built-in speech voices and gives you direct control over voice, volume, rate, pitch, usernames, bots, message lengths, queue behavior, and per-user or per-channel rules.

🚀 Getting Started

Install the extension, then refresh an open Twitch, Kick, or active YouTube Live page.
Left-click the injected TTS control or extension icon to enable chat reading.
Left-click Queue for pause, skip, replay, clear, volume, and current/next-message controls.
Right-click either injected button to open Settings, then choose a voice and adjust volume, rate, pitch, filters, and rules.
Use voice preview to hear “This is testing Aar318's Live Chat TTS.” New installations start disabled until you turn TTS on.

Unified Split Control: TTS and Queue now stay attached as one fixed-width horizontal control across reinjection, navigation, responsive layouts, and visibility changes.
Strict New-Message Startup: Enabling TTS or reopening an already-enabled channel records the existing chat as backlog before observation begins, so only genuinely new arrivals are announced.
Safer Speech Recovery: Added queue watchdog and interruption safeguards that advance past abandoned speech without replaying an already-started message.
Reliable State Announcements: Every explicit TTS enable or disable action now supersedes stale preview/audio state and announces promptly.
Faster New-Message Pickup: A lightweight fallback scan complements live DOM observation so site rendering changes cannot leave several new messages waiting before speech begins.
Cleaner Advanced Controls: Rules, filters, profiles, patterns, and backup actions use compact content-sized buttons instead of large full-width blocks.
Independent Extension Speech: Chrome narration and enable/disable announcements now use the browser's extension TTS service, so muting the stream or typing in chat does not cancel the spoken queue.
Typing-Safe Recovery: Unexpected browser cancellations resume from the last reported word, or retry once from the beginning if the engine stopped before reporting progress. Only explicit Stop, Skip, or disabling TTS intentionally clears speech.
Condensed Support Events: Rapid cheer bursts are combined into one concise total, and community gift events announce the batch without reading every individual recipient.
On-Demand Reader: Paste text or open a wide variety of standard documents, e-books, and text files in a dedicated reader with one-click start, passage navigation, pause, resume, and stop controls.
Shared Reader Voice: The On-Demand Reader loads the main Live Chat TTS voice, rate, pitch, and volume, saves reader changes back to those settings, and includes the same spoken voice preview.
Automatic Reading Resume: The last selected or pasted document and its exact passage are retained locally by default, then restored automatically the next time the reader opens. This behavior can be disabled inside the reader.
Updated Settings Backup: Reader resume preference and bounded bookmark metadata are covered by settings export/import, while document and e-book text is deliberately excluded from backup files.
Adaptive Reading-Time Estimate: Shows word count, estimated total narration time, and remaining time as soon as text is pasted or opened. The estimate starts from the selected speech rate and recalibrates from completed passages to better match the active voice.

Per-User Rules: Prioritize, mute, rename, or assign custom voice, rate, and pitch settings to individual chatters. Priority messages bypass ordinary length filters.
Custom Name Pronunciations: Use configuration files or simple username:value entries, with recent-username autocomplete, Tab completion, and built-in smart pronunciation cleanup.
Bot and Command Controls: Common bots are excluded by default; an optional allowlist and user-created command-output patterns can announce useful bot results without speaking the bot name or emoji.
Message and Spam Cleanup: Compress repeated emoji, clarify commands and mentions, condense recognized bot results, apply optional length limits, and collapse highly similar copy-paste floods.
Queue and Duplicate Protection: Caps the queue and recent-message history, coordinates duplicate live-chat tabs, prevents re-rendered/backlog messages from replaying, retries voice startup, and resumes genuine interruptions near the last completed word.

🔐 Permissions & Privacy

Storage: Saves TTS state, voice settings, rate, pitch, mappings, channel profiles and enabled states, custom command patterns, per-user rules, bot preferences, filters, anti-spam and priority settings, appearance, injected-control visibility, and recent-username autocomplete data.
Context Menus: Adds user-invoked commands to toggle TTS, open settings, stop speech, speak selected text, and open support links.
Host Permissions: Limited to supported Twitch, Kick, and YouTube pages so the extension can observe active live chat and add its controls.
TTS: Lets Chrome speak queued chat and status announcements through its built-in extension speech service, independently from the stream's own audio state.
Local Processing: Chat is processed locally and spoken through browser/operating-system speech services. No external text-to-speech service receives chat text.
User-Selected Files: The On-Demand Reader reads only files explicitly chosen through its file picker. When reading resume is enabled, the most recent extracted document and passage are retained in extension-local IndexedDB so the reader can reopen it; disabling resume or pressing Clear removes that saved document. Nothing is transmitted. Scanned documents may require OCR, while DRM-protected e-books are not supported.
Local Storage Only: Chat message text is not stored. Username autocomplete and anti-spam history are capped, pruned, and used only for local extension behavior.
No Tracking: No analytics, advertising tracking, or external account is required.
