I've never had a browser extension that updates as frequently or is as clear about explaining what/why the changes were made. YT does *not* make it easy to d/l their content and the dev has to scramble to keep up. That said, it is a one-man show, and while I have never needed support, I am not surprised to see reviews saying support is weak.
Now and then, the extension will stop working -- this always means YT has changed something again. After several years of using this extension I now just take a breath and move on, knowing that I'll see an extension update before too much longer.
I think the 1-star reviews mostly just don't get this, and are spoiled by free extensions. I look for freeware, but have never regretted paying for this extension after wasting countless afternoons cycling through the alternatives that either don't work at all or stop working soon.

I use it regularly, with no issues, to download items to save on my phone because I'm often in areas with weak/no service or required to be offline.
