This is only partly true. It happens whenever Gesturefy has a major change in it's version number (version 1 to version 2 or version 3), which happened 2 times in total in an interval of about one and a half year each. I'd say that this is nothing uncommon for software. You were probably just unlucky and did your last backup shortly before the 3.0 release.
