Atlas is a self-hosted bookmark manager. The Firefox extension connects to the Atlas server URL configured by the user.
Data Processing
The extension processes the following data when needed to provide its features:
- Page URLs and titles when the user saves a page.
- Bookmark descriptions, notes, tags, collections, and cover images selected or created by the user.
- Website metadata and image URLs requested for bookmark enrichment.
- Atlas account information returned by the configured server, such as username, email address, and avatar URL.
- The configured Atlas server URL and extension preferences, including custom toolbar icon settings.
The extension does not collect browsing history for analytics, advertising, or tracking. It does not sell data or use third-party analytics services.
Data Transmission and Storage
Data is transmitted only to the Atlas server configured by the user. Saved bookmarks and account information are stored by that Atlas instance. The Atlas project does not require a central synchronization service.
If the configured instance is operated by a third party, that operator controls the server, database, backups, security, and retention of the data transmitted to it.
When metadata or image extraction is requested, the configured Atlas server may access the relevant webpage or image URL to provide the requested result.
Authentication
Authentication is handled by the configured Atlas server. The extension does not directly collect or store passwords. Login credentials are entered on the Atlas login page. Firefox cookies or session credentials may be used to authenticate requests to the configured server.
Local Storage
The extension stores the configured server URL and local preferences in Firefox extension storage. It does not store the Atlas account password.
Uninstalling the extension may remove local extension storage but does not delete data already stored on an Atlas server.
Security and Retention
Users or server operators are responsible for securing their Atlas deployment, database, backups, and authentication secrets. Data remains on the configured Atlas instance until deleted by the user or server operator.
