Extension: Night Field & Fireflies (Chrome extension)
Publisher / source: github.com/sharmark9931/fireflies-extension
Summary
This extension does not collect, sell, or transmit your personal data to us. It runs mostly on your device. Features that use Chrome permissions only access what is needed for the new tab experience described below, and that data stays on your computer unless you choose to visit third-party websites (for example, Google).
What this extension does
Replaces your new tab page with a themed scene (fireflies / butterflies, grass animation).
Optionally shows a Google search box, a Google apps launcher, and a top sites strip built from Chrome’s list of frequently visited pages.
Data we do not collect
We do not:
Run analytics or tracking in the extension.
Operate a server that receives your browsing data, searches, or identity.
Sell or share personal data.
The extension is distributed as open source; you can review the code on GitHub.
Chrome permissions and how they are used
Permission Why it exists
tabs Used only to open URLs in new tabs when you click items in the Google apps menu or top sites dock (chrome.tabs.create). We do not read the content of your tabs, history, or passwords.
topSites Used only to read Chrome’s locally stored list of most visited URLs and titles so the “Top sites” dock can show shortcuts. This list never leaves your device through our code—we have no backend.
Third-party services
Google Search, Google apps, and Google-hosted pages: If you use the search box or open Google services, those requests are handled by Google under Google’s Privacy Policy, not by this extension’s developer beyond opening the URL in your browser.
Favicons / images: The new tab may load public images (for example, site favicons or Google product artwork) from Google or other hosts over HTTPS. Those requests go from your browser to those hosts under their normal policies.
Local storage
The extension may store preferences on your device (for example, whether the search bar or top sites strip is visible) using browser storage (localStorage). This data stays on your device and is not synced to us.
Children’s privacy
This extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy if the extension’s behavior changes. The Last updated date at the top will change, and updates will be published in the same GitHub repository.
