The existing excellent reviews are hard to fault! - a great utility and I am so glad to have found it.

If I could add an observation, it is this: I keep wanting to reorder the list of Windows that are presented when you hover over the Firefox Icon (in Windows) - that would make a fine enhancement imo. A right-mouse-click to the context-menu could present "Sort" and offer the following "by" options: Alphabetically, and chronologically (by creation date, by last modification date & by last used date).
You might even be able to add a drag & drop facility too?
Thanks so much for building and offering this Tomasz - it makes it possible to work efficiently with hundreds of open tabs.

Also, the developer of All Tabs Helper, Kevin Jones, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/all-tabs-helper/reviews/ has retired from duty and is encouraging developers to fork his code to continue as they wish with that marvelous product. Perhaps some features would make great enhancements to Windows Titler?
One that immediately comes to mind is another context menu offering to kill all active sessions - IE to stop them robbing bandwidth. That saved me from rebooting on many occassions so it must have released the memory consumed too.

The other obvious one is to add functions to that described above to facilitate drag and drop of tabs *between* windows.

    The way this addon names/"titles" open Firefox windows feels a bit janky - it just adds a user-defined string of text to each tab - but the end resullt is better than nothing. The names also don't get added to, say, screenshots of webpages, which is great.

    This functionality honestly should be a part of Firefox by default, and then also presented a bit more neatly. But kudos for this addon nonetheless.

    Since Mozilla misguidedly killed tab-groups, an organized user needs far more open windows. I now have three times more browser windows due to this horrible decision, and this addon makes it far easier to keep track of what they are for. It gets four stars because the title occasionally disappears after a browser restart.

    The whole point is to have a Shorter more organized name not a name twice as long with symbols and emojis, garbage.

    Works like a charm.
    (Titles are restored after closing a window or even killing firefox completely. I didn’t try a reboot yet.)

    man klickt auf das Icon, Ein Popup Fenster erscheint, man tippt einen Namen ein, und ab dann heißst das Fenster "[eingegebener Name] Tabname"
    also alles wie man es erwarten würde, einfach und funktioniert.

    Works great on Mac, and Linux.

    For those having issues accessing the shortcut because it conflicts with one previously set by your OS, or another extension, you can manage the shortcuts yourself - just go to your extensions page, click on the cogwheel (tools for all add-ons), and then select the "Manage Extensions Shortcut"

    For those who don't see the toolbar icon, remember it may be hidden in the extensions icon (puzzle piece), if you haven't already opted to pin Window Titler to the toolbar.

    tl;dr: does not work on Linux

    Longer version: the two ways to activate this add-on do not work:

    Toolbar button (t icon) -- does not appear when Firefox is running (Debian Linux with KDE).

    Keyboard shortcut (Ctrl-Alt-T) that invokes Window Titler is already reserved to invoke the prefered Terminal App on most (probably all) version of Linux.


    Suggested resolution by Developer: make the shortcut configurable. There's a good chance this will solve the toolbar icon problem

    Awesome little helper. I use it together with a mod that lets me shorten task bar tabs. Makes my life as a tab hoarder so much more tidy. :D

    Does not save the titles after restart.

    unfortunately, as some comments already say : the name of the windows is often lost. So it's useless. I wish it to be fixed asap.

    02 april 2024: for the last few weeks, it constantly loses the titles while you work. Often, you can find the title in the panel opened by the icon, and reassign it. 5 minutes later, it's gone.
    If I close a titled window, all the others lose their titles.
    close and restart the browser is hit and miss.
    Maybe this is due to the huge amount of add-ons I have (active: 75), but none deals with windows titles. or maybe because I reverted (smooth operation)to FF 115 ESR when I got v121 of the normal release.
    TabSessionManager used to record and restore the titles perfectly, but then the restore part started messing up, so I started backing up with TSM and restoring with the windows setting General ->Startup->Restore Windows. This also has stopped working: titles are not reloaded.
