- It does what it says.
Cons:
- It does it very inefficiently.
- The extension would be much better if it didn't actually open new tabs, but reloaded favicons in the background. This uses a lot of resources, and bandwidth, and I can't even browse at the same time. If I run it while watching Twitch or Youtube, it will interrupt the video. That's a deal breaker for me.
This kind of extension should be able to run in the background without draining the browser. I would NEVER let this extension reload my entire bookmark collection because it would take long time, and it would also cripple the browser.
I wanted to use it for individual folders, but even that's a hassle because it requires manually typing in the folder path, and it doesn't even explain the syntax, and is shows no examples. I had to try several times until success because the syntax is not obvious to me. (I've seen all kinds of different syntaxes for the Firefox bookmark paths so its not obvious.) So, instead of doing all that, it's actually faster to just right click on the folder and do "Open All in Tabs" instead of using this extension.
Sorry, but this extension is not really a favicon loader. It's basically a bookmark opener. I can already open my bookmarks much faster by selecting "Open All" on each folder, so at this point this extension doesn't offer a better way of doing it.
I will gladly try it again, if it becomes more efficient and easier to use.
UPDATE
- In response to the author
True, it can reload all bookmarks in the browser, which cannot be done otherwise in a single turn. That can be useful, if one is willing to leave the browser run unattended for a long time. I don't know if I would ever do that with over 10k bookmarks, but I guess it's nice to have.
I will bump the rating because I judged it a little unfairly at first. I tried this extension with the expectation that it's a favicon loader specifically, which it is not, and in all fairness it never claimed to be. I had the wrong expectation, so that's my fault. This extension does exactly what it says - it automates loading of bookmarks.
"I could write a custom script without the api that only fetches favicons but this could easily mess up things in future firefox releases and would be time-consuming to maintain. "
Well, this actually sounds like what I really was looking for. It is too bad that you don't have the time to do it. Hopefully someone will.Phản hồi của nhà phát triển
đã đăng 8 năm trướcHi, I can only repeat that this is a workaround as the webextensions api doesn’t support the direct manipulation of favicons. That’s why extension like FavIcon Reloader don’t work in 57+. For single folders “Open all in tabs” is the official recommendation for reloading favicons. My extensions just automates this for all folders - which can be a lot. I could write a custom script without the api that only fetches favicons but this could easily mess up things in future firefox releases and would be time-consuming to maintain. Besides that I also check if a bookmark is still valid... - Xếp hạng 5 trong số 5bởi Ellen, 8 năm trướcI like this extension, thanks a lot! I first deleted the file favicons.sqlite and then ran it. Once it was completed I did a first clean-up, which was needed, since there are bookmarks there, which I didn't use probably for 10 years.
I noticed however that not all Favicons are loaded, while the same ones do show in Google Chrome, how come??
However it might be handy to write a little instruction how to run this add-on, since it took me a while to figure it out and thanks to reading the reviews I was sent in the right direction where to look.
Update:
I found the sidebar back in my customize menu, where I must have put it a few months ago when I first used it. I just didn't recognize it as this app, since it was called "sidebar" :) - Xếp hạng 5 trong số 5bởi radicalPolio, 8 năm trướcLoads a set (customizable) amount of tabs in order to load their Favicon and check if the site is still connectable. Does absolutely everything I needed from this sort of addon, highly recommended.

đã đăng 8 năm trướcHi, the extension uses the new webextensions api which will eventually completely replace legacy extension. Unfortunately it doesn’t work on versions before 57, when webextensions were introduced. - Xếp hạng 5 trong số 5bởi muzicman0, 8 năm trướcDid EXACTLY what I wanted it to do. An acceptable workaround until Firefox syncs Favicons.

- Xếp hạng 5 trong số 5bởi Orangutan, 8 năm trướcMakes the process of reloading favicons much more convenient, keeping in mind webextension limitations around the same.
Suggestions:
1) Maybe load the bookmarks in background tabs so that it is at least theoretically possible to continue working while the extension loads and closes all tabs in the background. Currently, it is impossible to use the browser while the extension works.
2) Move the extension out of the sidebar, into its own dedicated page. I don't think it makes much sense to use the sidebar for this extension, and you will also run into issues because people might have sidebars with smaller widths.Phản hồi của nhà phát triển
đã đăng 8 năm trướcThank you for your feedback. I’ve implemented your first suggestion in the latest release. When it comes to the second one I’m skeptical. I do most of my bookmark related stuff in the bookmarks sidebar. Having the errors in the sidebar, I can quickly review them without window switching/rearranging and now I can keep an eye on the progress while opening other tabs - for example to review an error. I consider reducing the font-size of the list though. Displaying bookmarks in the sidebar should be possible on every screen, shouldn’t it? I think I don’t expect too much when I’m expecting people to resize their sidebar. Maybe a misconception ;) Maybe there are even screens where the sidebar can’t get wide enough but how does the bookmark sidebar work on that screens? Well, I will keep that in mind... - Xếp hạng 5 trong số 5bởi Người dùng Firefox 13320527, 8 năm trướcI meant the same function as FavIcon Reloader. And then I have 10,000 bookmarks! and I would like to restore their icons

đã đăng 8 năm trướcI see... thanks again! Actually I was waiting for a replacement for FavIcon Reloader, but at the moment it does not seem to be possible to port its functionality to the new addon-ecosystem. I think that's why the developer could not update it for newer versions of firefox and it is the reason why I came up with this workaround. With 10.000 bookmarks you could always backup/restore your favicons.sqlite, favicons.sqlite-shm and favicons.sqlite-wal files in your profile folder or let this extension run for two hours and turn of the heating instead ;) Maybe, on the other hand side, you can reduce your number of bookmarks by finding many dead links...
