Velka's Eye

is a privacy-focused Firefox extension that summarizes web pages and lets you chat about their content using any OpenAI-compatible AI model.

The reason why I created my own, another llm chat with your page extension and not went with the existing solutions or even the official firefox solution, is because this one accepts Ollama/local AI, or any LLM Provider of choice. Second reason, it uses the least amount of packages and the code is straightforward and auditable to everyone, here is the repository: https://github.com/thegreyfellow/velkas-eye-firefox . Peace.

How it works

• Click the extension icon on any page to get an instant AI-generated summary
• Ask follow-up questions about the page content in a built-in chat
• Supports YouTube video transcripts and generic web pages
• Sessions are tab-scoped and stay active until you navigate away

Privacy first

• No content scripts, all page fetching happens in the background script
• No accounts, no tracking, no telemetry
• Your API key stays local and is never sent to anyone except your chosen AI provider
• Sessions are stored in memory only and cleared when the browser closes

Configuration

Bring your own API key and endpoint. Works with any OpenAI-compatible provider, OpenRouter, Together, local Ollama, or any other compatible service. Enter your API key, base URL, and model name in the settings panel and you're ready to go.

All settings are stored locally in your browser and never leave your machine.
