I use this extension as a back-up for videos with click-bait or sensationalized titles I want a alternative to, and do not use its titles and thumbnails as the default way to look at YouTube videos. The descriptive titles act more like titles to scientific papers in their betrayal of the contents of the video. It is of my opinion that titles of educational videos should be more descriptive and long. Artistic titles, and titles that have metaphors should have titles keep its integrity, and skits, artistic video strictly for non-informative entertainment shouldn't be changed.
But, a compromise should be reached for the people who think some ""REDDITORS'"" title changes are UNNECESSARY EARTH SHATTERING RUINING YouTube⸮, to these people I say look at your setting: "Behaviors > Default to Original Video Information" will make it opt-in, and you could only look at the DeArrow version when you want a more descriptive title. I also detest that asking users to pay for software that heavily relies on data hosted on a server is being called "shady", as you are normalizing developers being under funded enough to not be able to support their software. Servers cost money = server needs funding -> people unwilling to pay = hard to keep servers running/cost comes out of dev's pocket. With all of that out of the way, This is an biased review based on my use-case, but so was theirs, so now we get both sides of the coin.
A feature I personally think would be nice to add — but of course not mandatory — is a 70%-80% democratic vote for if a video is plagiarized, with a attached source to accompany it. This would greatly help push for more accountability within the "video essay" and "educational" online sphere.

I actually don't mind the arrow thumbnails, but I'm growing to really appreciate (and contribute to) the title swaps. The thumbnail swaps feel too obvious and ugly, but the Titles feel very transparent and get to the heart of what as video is about (this is I think personal preference, I guess I don't mind "sensational" imagery to grab my attention as long as the Title is descriptive) I find I'm both avoiding videos I have no interest in, but also actually finding new creators thanks to their "de-arrowed" video titles. You can re-arrow titles with a single click (I presume this does the same with thumbnails too).
The free activation took me about a day, and honestly now I've started using it think I will contribute, at the least I've already contributed with a few titles of my own. Your license also syncs with your Firefox Sync, which I was surprised about for the free license. - 评分 5 / 5来自 Ali Nazari, 2 个月前

发布于 2 个月前Hi, clickbait remover is another extension that you are free to use if you want. It has different features though and does not have any crowdsourcing开发者回应
发布于 2 个月前Hi, this will be fixed in 2.2.1. It might take up to two weeks for the update to be reviewed by Mozilla, but you can download the beta here: https://github.com/ajayyy/DeArrow/releases/tag/2.2.1- 评分 1 / 5来自 Firefox 用户 19587603, 2 个月前

Edit: "When someone spams my email..." 4 days went by with no response, then I gave some information I thought would be useful and thought I had found the issue, to which I closed my issue post on your github page. 6 full days went by until the issue popped up again, where I reopened the issue. I mentioned something I noticed when moving the tab/window playing a YT video and 3 more full days went by without a word. That's spam to you? You've got a very skewed definition of the word "spam" if that's how you think...开发者回应
发布于 2 个月前When someone spams my email, I am a lot less interested in spending time helping them out. I am always happy to help people who are respectful - I installed it and am using it to replace a much better addon that is no longer updated. I only care about two features: changing the case of titles and replacing thumbnails with video frames.
I have a couple problems with DeArrow:
Similar to SponsorBlock, the crowdsourced nature of it makes it very unreliable. There are many cases of overly opinionated user submissions that conflict with the original material in one way or another.
There are settings to remove the crowdsource functionality and make it work the way I described above, but getting it to do that wasn't very easy and required some hoops to be jumped through.
The much bigger set of hoops is the process of getting to use the addon. You cannot use the addon for free, and the description is misleading.
To get access you need to first click a button to decline paying, then you need to apply for free access, you do not get free access immediately, so you have to start your short free trial. My trial expired before I was granted free access. I was very tempted to uninstall the plugin at every step of this way, and the experience means I will never donate.
I understand the desire to make money off this, but this attitude sucks when it actively and very successfully disrupts the usability of the tool. I am not recommending it to other people. Will drop it if I ever make my own addon to replace the old clickbait remover, or find an alternative.
Maybe this is petty and vindictive, but I'm so tired of all the bullshit and lack of groovy attitudes.开发者回应
发布于 2 个月前The goal is to make an add-on that anyone can use for free if they want to, instead of paywalling it. Anyone can request free access to use DeArrow for free, no questions asked, because I think that's the right thing to do.
At the same time, people buying DeArrow is how I pay my rent, so I appreciate anyone who chooses to do so. - This makes YouTube SO MUCH BETTER! Videos I would never click on are made way more interesting now that I can actually see what they're about. Every YouTuber feels the need to oversimplify their thumbnails and titles to make it more "clickable", but for some of us, that has the opposite effect. Thank you for making the YouTube experience better.
