EDIT: The issue described below has since been f̶i̶x̶e̶d̶ mitigated somewhat, it took them TWO MONTHS to address such critical issue after being made aware of it on GitHub.

EDIT2: 5 months later the issue re-appeared (2026.4.0), potential fix in the next release.

EDIT3: 2.5.1 did not fix the issue, actually made it much worse on some sites like monkeytype.

The add-on has massive performance issues and slows down pages a lot, especially if they have many dynamic elements, which is now very common. It often causes freezes and sluggish animations/scrolling.

I was hoping it would stop the constant scanning for form fields on page changes by disabling "Show autofill suggestions in form fields", so it only does its scan when autofill is requested with the shortcut or from extension panel, but it made no difference.

Only excluding the domains worked, but then why have the add-on at that point. Disabling it significantly improved general navigation.

    For a few days, my vaultwarden wasn't loading. This was annoying. We updated our vaultwarden, did a full log-off and then it started working again. still annyoing.

    If you host Vaultwarden yourself and Bitwarden version 2026.7.0 broke your sync with Vault, you need to update Vaultwarden to at least version 1.36.0, preferably the latest.

    the experience that I have with this extension recently are miserably. On Zen it stuck at loading the vault after logged-in, on Brave it stuck at log in screen.

    For all those using Vaultwarden, you need to update your Vaultwarden server, and the extension will sync up again. -July 26, 2026.

    Firefox extension 2026.7.0 stuck loading with Vaultwarden

    After updating the Bitwarden Firefox extension to version 2026.7.0, the vault remains stuck on the loading placeholders and no items are displayed.

    Going back to 2026.6.1 fixes it.

    To those come here for a broken update: I updated vaultwarden to 1.37.0 and resynced it's working now.

    Go back to 2026.6.1 to get it working with self-hosted again. They broke it for firefox in 2026.7.0. The previous versions are here on the mozilla addons page under Version History > "See all versions" for Bitwarden. I'm not allowed to paste the url.

    The extension not working on the newest version is not a problem with bitwarden itself but with the selfhosted vault.

    So nothing to complain, great extension and so grateful that selfhosted is supported.

    You broke it. Newest version get stuck loading the vault and is blank. Can't use it now. Self-hosted. Desktop app and web interface work fine, so I know it's this plugin.
