wót FireFoxNewbie, kahdeksan vuotta sittenAs an alternative to “Go Parent Folder” I discovered and used “Bookmark Manager and Viewer”. It would (past tense) display a tree of the folder containing a particular Bookmark. After working for a while the tree was no longer accessible for the Bookmark, rendering the Extension useless. This had problems from the beginning because it was very slow, but at least it worked.
If you visit the comments section of this Extension you will find many others that have also discovered that this Extension no longer works. Why? I have no idea. It seems that it may be that Firefox has been updated so even this Extension no longer works. This begs the question of why those who manage Firefox development seem determined to destroy a valuable extension that has been needed LONG before the development of Quantum, including that of “Go Parent Folder”.
Be that as it may, the following is a FALSE statement by the developer of “Bookmark Manager and Viewer”, InBasic; “…It is even possible to drag a bookmark to a new position in the tree or create a new directory and place the bookmark inside it. ...” As stated above, the “tree” is no longer accessible. This statement is current as of this writing. This developer, unlike others, has seen fit to not answer the concerns of the many who have made the same criticisms.
One of our other major complaints has been the placing of FEBE by Chuck Baker among the many categories of “Legacy Extensions”. FEBE, in particular, makes it dangerous to try any Extensions without a backup that FEBE provided. As a consequence there is no way to easy recover if a disaster occurs, such as destruction of all Bookmarks.
As far as suggested “work-a-rounds” are concerned, that is NOT the answer. The answer is to provide an easily usable Extension for EVERYONE. Absent that perhaps Firefox by Mozilla should get off trying to sell its major mission of being a “global community working together to keep the Web open, public and accessible to all.” That appears to be a “fake” statement of policy, to use a well-worn word that that has entered the popular vernacular.
I tried to move these comments to the top, because I submitted this on 2/12/18. However it remains in its original position and there is no way to delete the previous post so more current experience can be displayed.

Also needing to select allow for every new domain is painful. - Z 1 z 5 pógódnośonywót Wužywaŕ Firefox 15037318, 10 kuukautta sittenit did not work properly.
A simply task of editing a bookmark, I could not see how to do that. I assume you search a word say piano and you can select a bookmark with the word piano and simply modify. You can modify the title of the bookmarks this way but it does not record the changes made!!!
If I cannot figure out such a simple task, there is something wrong with this addon.
And various issues arose. I could only type pia and it would not let me type more than pia!!! - Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót Wužywaŕ Firefox 13866866, vuosi sitten

I have a lot of bookmarks, cleanly categorised in folders, subfolders and so on.
Using the built-in bookmarks menu, you are navigating down the hierarchy, and because you are impatient, you are moving the pointer fast. When you have almost reached the desired subfolder, you move the pointer a little bit outside the menu which immediately collapses and you have to start over.
This extension gives you a tree view which doesn't have that issue. Furthermore, the last opened folder is still open when you reopen the tree view.
Also creating a new folder for a new bookmark is much more convenient: While FF merely shows you a small control with expanded folders, the tree view is much bigger and lets you collapse all folders.
