The about section of this listing has had an entire section about the client app for years, and the privacy policy makes it clear that the extension uses third party speech recognition services to transcribe the audio file.

Just enable the extension, and you very very rarely have to enter captchas again, this effect is so pronounced that you almost forget how to do CAPTCHAS entirely when you do have to. 10/10, life-changing extension, love how it's open source also - please support projects like these with donations.
