jo se napisał 2 dager sidenAha, the good old days! I remember ~10 years ago when I just started this project, the internet was like the wild west. Cookies hadn't eaten the world yet, and I just checked every permission that I thought would be useful for this tool. Neither Firefox nor Chrome couldn't care less, my extension just lived its best life, silently running on every website it visited.
Then, maybe about four years ago, Firefox gave me a reality check. They told me, "Hey, you need to explain these permissions and get actual consent from user, or we will pull the plug." I was spooked! I told them, "But I don't collect anything!" and Firefox basically replied, "Naj, you’re handling a ton of data. You just don't realize it."
So their solution is that instead of making developers write long essays, browsers now show those "scary" popups warning you that I have access to all data on all website etc. It sounds intense, but it’s all in the name of transparency. And on my side I’ve had to write a proper privacy policy to explain every bit of data I handled.
I’m not complaining, though. I’ve learned that privacy is a core value, and data is just as valuable as money, and losing it usually means losing freedom. I’m still a minimalist at heart: I don’t collect anything unless it’s 100% necessary. I don't even use web analytics like most other devs do. If I absolutely have to handle data for a feature to work, I make sure it’s declared in the app, documented in the policy file, and write about it on my site or in my blog post.
To address your concerns (which are totally legit):
1. The app is open-source.
2. The privacy policy is transparently hosted on GitHub and Firefox.
3. Most of the app works right out of the box, no login or registration required.
4. For free features, zero data is sent anywhere. Only some Pro features require a server to function, which is why those need a login to handle things like the specific word or sentence you’re translating.
Thanks for the feedback! It’s great to see people actually care about their privacy. It keeps me on my toes and makes me a better developer.

- Z 4 z 5 pógódnośonywót Wužywaŕ Firefox 18979072, 6 dager sidenI really dig this dictionary extension, it's one of the most complete I've come across. You can investigate as much about a word as you possibly can think of as the dictionaries available are many and varied. That and saving words looked up in a list that is also exportable is a great tool!
The only issue I have is having to give permissions to a lot of data collecting, which today seems far more problematic than back when I first hit the internet in the late 90s. I sure miss the sense of freedom, and genuine goodwill of that time on the net that quickly disappeared after the utter commodifying and commercializing that occurred post 2004. I guess we've had a good 30 or so years, but like all things. Once that commercial aspect drops in, everything turns to crap.Wótegrono wuwijarja

Also they remove negative reviews.

jo se napisał 10 dager sidenAre you referring to the previous racist comment you made? I didn't delete it, there is not even a "delete" button on this page for project authors. If it's not yourself, it's the moderator in Firefox team then.
To clarify: this app is open-source, its privacy policy is transparently available on github and in the privacy section on Firefox addons. In essence, you don't need to login nor register to use most part of the app, it just works out of box. And for the free features it doesn't collect any data to send to anywhere at all. Only for some pro features, some information are handled on the server-side, hence needs user registration.
I also don't do any email marketings at all, as I am just a solo developer, I don't have time for that. If you registered on my website, you might see some email notifications when someone mentioning you or commented on your posts.

- Z 4 z 5 pógódnośonywót Chris Hayes, 2 måneder sidenCool extension, I like the various sources it can show and the customization. The popups on text select are annoying though. They keep getting added and I keep turning them off. Though I do appreciate I can individually turn them off.
Edit 1: idk how to reply to replies, so I'm replying as an edit—Some people like the popups on text select, which is fine. As long as I can toggle it off, I'm happy. My personal reason is that I select text as I read, it's a weird habit, but I have heard of other people doing this too. Having a popup appear is too distracting when I'm reading. Which is why I really like that you can configure this extension to only show popups when using a key like Ctrl or Shift.Wótegrono wuwijarja
jo se napisał 2 måneder sidenEdit 2: Hi, I listened to your advice, in the new v6.4.1 I added the option to show the selection bubble only when a modifier key (ie. Ctrl, Shift or Alt) is pressed. PS, go to settings you will find the option. And you can press the key either in selection or after.
If you like it, can I earn back the missing star? :D
-----
Edit 1: Thank you again for the feedback. I see, that's good to know. It's really interesting to see different people have different preference and habit. I will add that configuration you suggested.

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry for the popup parade. I’ve been working like a machine these past few days to add features I was really really excited about, and I thought others would feel the same. Sorry you’ve had to turn them off one by one. If you can, give them a try and let me know what you like or hate about. If you prefer turning them off, please tell me why. I’ll owe you a big favor... And I promise I will take a break for the next few weeks, so no new features will be popping up. - Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót Dima, 4 måneder sidenGreat extension but after the latest update it doesn't work on websites in thai language. After yet another update it has been corrected. Thx.

jo se napisał 4 måneder sidenThank you for the feedback! I confirmed it was a bug introduced in the last version. It happened when a word contained accent or diacritic marks (like in Thai), which caused the validation to fail. I fixed it as soon as I found the issue and added a unit test to ensure it won’t happen again. The fix is included in v6.1.0. Hope it works well for you now! Can I earn that 5-star rating? - Z 4 z 5 pógódnośonywót Wužywaŕ Firefox 18591186, 6 måneder siden

- Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót Jack Hoveall, 10 måneder sidenBy FAR, BEST dictionary extension I have tried. Recommended ones WOULDN'T EVEN WORK. This one fills the void I had from Safari's right click word look up function, but far more featured and customizable, if you so desire. Thanks River! I hope Mozilla starts actively monitoring so trustworthy security vouching brings you a greater audience
- Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót Za, ett år sidenThis is the only working 'double-click a word and get a definition' dictionary add-on I could find.
So thank you very much to the developer. - Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót DaiterGd, ett år sidenwhat about small alternative button as a popup?

- Z 4 z 5 pógódnośonywót Matt, ett år sidenI really like the simplicity of this app. It just works exactly as it says. There does seem to be a bug with the setting to disable the Captions YouTube link. Every time I disable it and it comes right back the next time I restart Firefox. It's not a big deal but it is annoying.
Wótegrono wuwijarja
jo se napisał ett år sidenIt should work correctly. Could you try to remove some of the word history then save the settings again? It could be that the storage of the addon has been used up so that the settings are not persisted. - Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót jug, ett år sidenExcellent, couldn't find a better one than this.
Edit: There, fixed it.
+A request-can you try to make the Pop-up bubble pop up faster? or does it depend on the internet speed?
thank you, much appreciated. bless youWótegrono wuwijarja
jo se napisał ett år sidenEdit: Thanks Pal. I am gonna look into the speed issue in the next version.
Thank you. is it why you give a 4 stars? - Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót Supy153, 2 år siden- |||| Hey, I can't rate the words anymore after this new update and It's been a while, but before when I opened the pop-up, the search bar would be selected automatically. It was really convenient. I would really appreciate it if you could fix all this.
Edit: I can rate the words again, thank you. The issue with the search bar didn't change, but ok. And It's a little bit laggy now when I search a word trough my history. It may be my PC idk.
Edit: The add-on is not laggy, It is the website I was using 💀
Edit: It's all working now. This ESC function is gonna be pretty handy. Thanks.
---
Edit: Hello, some more feedback here. The window size keep resizing and getting smaller every time I open the pop-up. Could you make it stay always in the same size?Wótegrono wuwijarja
jo se napisał 2 år siden[Edit]: Oops. Thanks again. Autofocus on the search input comes back on v5.1.2 :)
Btw, pressing the ESC key can also put you focus on the input.

original comment: i absolutely love this add-on, i created an account to rate it.. however there was a tiny issue with it, it stopped working quite recently- im not sure why but it was great until now, 5/5 would reccomend!Wótegrono wuwijarja

Turns out there are many more issues with Manifest V3 on Firefox, so I rolled back to manifest v2 after V5.1.0. I believe the newest version works perfectly on any firefox version now. Check it out.

Thanks for the feedback, glad you like it. However, what is the function that stopped working? It sounds very serious. I am very actively developing and testing it now. It seems all working for me. Can you give me more clue? Please create an issue on github or at our community website pnlpal.dev so that we can communicate further on the issues. - Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót ttuygun, 2 år siden

- Z 4 z 5 pógódnośonywót nomadrc, 3 år sidenThe best and most comprehensive dictionary extension I've ever used by far. Sometimes however the 'mouse-over-a-word-for-a-definitions-popup' function, will stop working and I need to restart my browser to fix it. Otherwise I love this extension. I am using a non-standard browser (LibreWolf, a fork of Firefox), so this could conceivably be the issue since I haven't tested if it happens in other browsers.
