If you have to choose only one extension, then noscript is the one to use. Even TOR browser use noscript!

Its not just for advanced users, i just watched a YouTube tutorial and can now block scripts, allow scripts, prohibit scripts, temp allow scripts, customize whats allowed and not (when customizing there will even be guidance about what to allow)
