wót squid, ien jier lynI was trying to find an extension that could help me either make my menu bar look nicer because I have so many links it was becoming a bit of an eyesore and I didn't like the look of so many folders across my menu bar. I stumbled across Tab Stash, and it wasn't really what I had in mind but I loved the idea of a vertical side bar that I can toggle open/close so I gave it a go :)!
Tab Stash was much easier to use than I expected (I usually take a long time to figure things out). I personally found it very intuitive! I like how the instructions are detailed yet concise.
I managed to clear out my menu bar and "stash" everything into Tab Stash. I'm still keeping my most used bookmarks along the menu bar, but I'm down from the whole menu bar being filled to just 1/6 of it. It looks so much better now.
I was a bit worried there's no option to hide the "Open all tabs and remove them from this group (hold Cmd to open in background)" button as I feared accidentally clicking that and deleting a whole tab even though I know the stash trash saves for 180 days. Happy that I decided to open a bunch of empty windows, save it as a stack, and test "accidentally" clicking the button; discovered that as soon as you click it, there's an option to "Undo" which restores them immediately. Anxiety lessened!! Grateful for the thoughtfulness of providing that feature.
Special shout out to the "compact" feature; providing customisable options on what happens when you click the extension button; dark/light/system modes.
Really really liking this and thinking about getting Firefox on my phone despite being too lazy to do so for ages, just so I can have this extension synced on my phone.
Thank you to the developer Josh Berry for making this and letting us use it for free. That's very very generous of you. It's decluttered my links/bookmarks, given me less visual strain when using Firefox, and it's extremely helpful.
Thanks so much! ship x

jo se napisał ien jier lynHi ship, thank you very much for the thoughtful review! I'm really glad to hear Tab Stash has helped to reduce the visual clutter and keep things organized.
There is good news and bad news on mobile—the good news is, since Tab Stash saves everything as bookmarks, your saved tabs are at least accessible on mobile. The bad news is Tab Stash itself doesn't run on mobile, because I'm not an Android user, and so I haven't been able to properly test and develop it on Android. (And Firefox for iOS doesn't support extensions at all—that one's completely on Apple though, heh.)
I have been thinking about ways of making mobile easier for both Android and iOS users—for example, offering to import any mobile bookmarks you save. We'll see.
Regardless, thanks again for taking the time to write up your thoughts, I was really happy to read this!
Best wishes,
Josh

- Z 1 z 5 pógódnośonywót Wužywaŕ Firefox 19291583, 8 dagen lynIt is processing tabs, one by one. So when stashing tabs it takes ages.
Firefox allocated 8GB of RAM and crashed (I have few thousands tabs opened).
It is storing "stashes" in a bookmarks which is good.
When tabs are finally stashed, then it is using about 500MB of RAM just to show a list of "stashes".Wótegrono wuwijarja
jo se napisał 2 dagen lynThanks for the feedback—it is true that Tab Stash currently doesn't handle thousands of OPEN tabs (in the same window) very well. However, it is known to handle large sets (tens of thousands) of STASHED tabs quite well, with minimal memory usage, and I've put quite a lot of work into making sure it stays that way.
The 500MB of RAM you're referencing is likely because you have thousands of tabs loaded in the UI from when you first stashed your open tabs—this will normally be much smaller because UI elements are created only when they need to be shown.
As for the one-by-one processing of tabs, that's unfortunately a limitation in Firefox's bookmarks API. Having lots of parallel bookmark operations running can mess up Firefox Sync and cause other problems in the bookmarks database. - Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót Wužywaŕ Firefox 13978806, 22 dagen lyn

jo se napisał ien moanne lynThanks for the kind words! I have good news, which is that there is already built-in export functionality. You can find it in the main menu or in the menu for any folder.
You can also use any built-in Firefox features or other bookmarking add-ons to work with the bookmarks in your stash, and Tab Stash will keep itself up to date! So feel free to use whatever bookmark backup tool works best for you. - Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót AEZ314, ien moanne lynI'm in love with this extension! Would love to see it on Chrome based browsers too (please port it, I desperately need it lol)
Wótegrono wuwijarja
jo se napisał ien moanne lynThanks, I'm really happy you like it! A Chrome port is unfortunately very unlikely, because Tab Stash uses a lot of Firefox-specific things. Also, I am not a Chrome user, so wouldn't be able to provide good support for it. But it may happen one day, I won't say "never". :) - Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót frostbyte, ien moanne lyn
- Z 2 z 5 pógódnośonywót MyFirefox, 2 moannen lynBe ye forewarned... do not jump right into this or any other open tab manager if you have a lot of currently opened tabs that you expect the extension to help you sort out.
My fault really, but intending to just look around, I hovered & then clicked to stash on a filtered selection. Not seeing a way to pause, cancel or undo; I could only let it run. How bad could it be?
It not only "stashed" the ~500 tabs from the filtered selection, but threw the other 3200 tabs in with. Then to my horror found that it put every single one of the 3700 tabs into "hidden tabs".
I only learned of this after a frantic race to shut down every other process & service on the machine to free up as much of the 32GB as possible, praying that Fx wouldn't crash.
It finally ended, and after wasting a bunch of time trying to find a solution, have now resolved to spending more time cleaning up the resulting mess than it would have taken without the help of the extension.
Badly needs an Undo. Badly needs Select/Unselect All on filtered lists. There's not even the ability to Tap-Space to keep selecting in a list, it's a slog of one-click-at-a-time. Badly needs a setting to only affect what is selected and don't mess with anything else.Wótegrono wuwijarja
jo se napisał 2 moannen lynSo if I'm reading this right, it sounds like you were expecting "Stash all tabs" to stash only the tabs matching the search. That's a fair point; I've made a note to look into this further.
I'm afraid I don't really understand the rest of your post, though, because:
- When Tab Stash hides/stashes tabs, it's not going to use any more resources than before (i.e. your memory usage will stay the same or decrease), so I don't really understand why the rush to free up memory?
- There IS a single-click "undo" for an accidental "stash all tabs", which is to simply unstash the group that was created.
- You can select multiple tabs at once by shift+clicking, just like you would in Windows Explorer or Finder. There's no need to select each tab individually. (And yes, this respects filtering, so you can select an entire list of filtered tabs with one click and one shift+click.)

Wótegrono wuwijarja
jo se napisał 2 moannen lynAfraid I'm not quite sure what you mean here; if you're talking about restoring tabs automatically after a browser restart, that's built-in to Firefox, and not something Tab Stash does. Otherwise, feel free to open an issue on GitHub and I'd be happy to chat with you further to figure out what's going on! - Z 5 z 5 pógódnośonywót Aoshi Shinomori, 2 moannen lynI've been a Firefox user since ver. 2 and this is my very first extension review. >edit
Instead of whatever is typed in search , i would like the option for folder names to be created as in Version 3.1.1
Search terms as folder names are too contitional , restrictive to work without affecting stash organization even more when having to manage numerous diverse tabs
The search terms can be regex , random , short , ever changing etc ; they ignore the how often a new folder is created that can be set in the addon options when the search term is changed ; selecting and chosing to create a new folder will just do the same and can lead to duplicate folders if the search terms remains the same , at least in this case the folder names with 3.1.1 format would not be identical ; now if technically speaking the search term would check not only the topmost folder in the stash root but check all top folders (not sub folders) then it would just stash in a old folder where in this case the outcome wouldn't be desired so theres no avoiding this issue
3.1.1 naming format didn't had those downsides and was simple to work withWótegrono wuwijarja
