Nice idea for an extension that puts an ID on text. Would class based extension be possible? Also add selected text elements to their own anchors within a collection?

Hello, this extension is a simple implementation based on the draft at https://wicg.github.io/scroll-to-text-fragment/ , and it is unrelated to the element's class.

    Doesn't recognise headings or existing elements. Not even when there are unique element IDs on the page that could have been used.
    Instead of linking to an existing element like a subheading, list, etc it just creates a new link to specific words. I would rather it linked by element type eg h2[3] for the third h2 heading or let you easily pick a full heading rather than fiddle to get an few words highlighted.

    There are plans to include plain anchors as fallback in the future[^2].

    Very nice, clean and simple to use, with solid defaults for how the syntax is applied to different length strings. It's also nice how the "Disable when natively supported" option is set true by default. Fantastic all around!

    How do I understand if it works or not? Yes, it does copies with these "IDs" or whatever they're called/referenced as. But when I intentionally went to visit one, I wasn't automatically scrolled to what I highlighted. Which is what I want but it doesn't happen.

    Overall, you deserve 2 stars for that.

    EDIT: tested it, seems to work now. NVM.

    Hello, for Firefox 131 or later versions, the native implementation will be used by default. See: https://github.com/ichaoX/ext-textFragment/issues/23

    For other cases, could you please create an issue for this GitHub project, including browser information and specific steps to reproduce?

    It works as expected. But it would be great if the add-on would have a second option to use the ‘textEnd’ directive of the standard so that text could be highlighted with less text in the URL generated. Perhaps by only selecting the 2 initial and final words of the full selection? Important when the text selected is long.

    (latest stable version of Firefox and macOS.)

    EDIT 2025-06-14: I think it was `dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled = false`.

    Better than the other more popular addon for fragments. Seems to have a bug where the highlighted text will often show for a split second, but then disappear as soon as the page finishes loading.

    Works well in W10. Have tried to use on my Linux laptop without success. Would appreciate
    feedback from the creator of the add-on.
    Note: after restarting FF I could not use this any longer. It just does not work

    You can try v0.5.1, which supports older versions of Firefox.
