by LT Smash, 6 years agoWorked just fine for a couple months, then Firefox quarantined it (when it was still named Dark Mode and wasn't recommended yet), this message appears below the disabled and locked out "Dark Mode" :
Dark Theme (Malware) has been blocked for your protection.
Why was it blocked?
This add-on violates Mozilla's ad-don policies by using obfuscated code.
What does this mean?
The problematic add-on or plugin will be automatically disabled and no longer usable.
When Mozilla becomes aware of add-ons, plugins, or other third-party software that seriously compromises Firefox security, stability, or performance and meets certain criteria, the software may be blocked from general use. For more information, please read this support article.

Now I'm using the slightly inferior Dark Night Mode add-on, because I can't stand all that LED light at night, especially that harmful blue wave we experience that seriously messes with the circadian rhythm/sleep cycle (like those new LED streetlights, im glad my city still mostly just has the orange sodium lights and hope the newfound harmful health effects slow down the deployment of that even worse light pollution).
Mr. Shutau, can I trust your new "Dark Reader" or will it attempt to inject malicious code sometime in the future? I really liked your "Dark Mode", but using Debian Linux, I was surprised to see the word Malware in my add-ons when I went to the Add-Ons menu when I noticed the extension stopped working and the icon disappeared from my toolbar.
If an explanation of what happened here can be obtained, I'd love to see it...

- Rated 3 out of 5by Webzilla, 6 days agoWith the latest Firefox update (version 150.0.2, May 7, 2026), this extension causes slow-down in the Reddit website, and only there. Screen updates lag or become unresponsive for long durations on the Reddit site. Firefox then shows a notification bar right below the address bar saying Dark Reader is causing the slowdown. Please fix if you can.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 19918529, 7 days agoWorks pretty well, but they broke something with the most recent update, and it's causing a huge memory leak. I had to go back to 4.9.124
- Rated 1 out of 5by Lou, 7 days agoUsed to be great, but more and more it'll make some sites like run 10-30x slower until they crash your browser tab. (Tested and confirmed it was this extension)

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13373464, 12 days agoOne of the OG addons have to be removed finally. Loved this addon for years but its at the point now it is very noticeably slowing down my pages. Sometimes to the point of freezing the entire browser.
IMO the addon needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18815035, 14 days agoGreat full featured Dark Mode add-on that has been steadily improving over the years. It's not perfect, but it's very close and much better than other add-ons. The only thing better than this add-on is for the webpage itself to have a dedicated dark mode. But for the rest of the internet, this add-on is pretty solid.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 18332686, 15 days agoWell, I would give 5 stars, but it seems to have not been updated recently and is now tanking performance. I had to uninstall sadly.
