Session Sync by Gabriel Ivanica

- Rated 2 out of 5by Jim Aldon D'Souza, a year agoI wish they would add firefox container support. I have tabs stored that are assigned to specific containers, which go haywire when restored in a new session because they get assigned to "no container" and go on a loop
- Rated 2 out of 5by dafFDasd, 3 years agoOK, so I have updated the review:
Lists currently open windows and tabs, clicking switches to clicked tab. But no tab delete nor search in tabs functionality. Max Pop up window size is too small. It needs to be a full page in new tab.
Does not auto save sessions.
UPDATE: The „Tab View” button opens a new page instead of a pop up. I'd rename it to something more intuitive (maybe view everything in new tab). It is possible to search the tabs there using Ctrl+g.
But despite the entry being highlighted after exiting from the search, the Enter key does not activate the tab.
Also Ctrl+Shift+V is a bad choice of hotkey. It is already universally reserved and used as „Paste without formatting”. I'd recommend opening in new tab view by default instead.
UPDATE 2: The hotkey can be changed. But the Settings popup closes every damn time I set something. It requires to reopen the stupid main pop up, then the settings pop up again and scroll down again to the last place.
Additionally the developer has not responded to the lack of close current tab/window functionality. This is the most important feature remaining.
Instead of practical functionality, this add-on includes wasteful animations without option to turn them off. They should be off by default or removed completely. It is an (annoying) anti-feature to waste time staring at unnecessary delays in workflow.Developer response
posted 3 years agoHi. I understand that you would expect something from an addon but the description states clearly that the addon is not intended for Auto-Saving of session. At the same time popup size is simply limited by Firefox, that's the maximum any developer can do, simply I can't make it bigger than that because that's and API limitation (nobody knows why just Firefox stupid decisions).
Regarding the full-page or new-tab -> those options are already available
Regarding search in tabs: yeah.. sorry that's a feature that would've been nice but was not able to implement it.
Auto-Save: There is some autosave implemented but not a full-featured like maybe other addons might have, but the whole purpose of the addon is to manually save what you need. - Rated 2 out of 5by Legion, 4 years agoSo you have to sync FF to sync Sessions. I simply want to choose a folder i.e. OneDrive to sync.
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 16449509, 4 years agoHas a number of decent futures for manual saving/sorting of specific sessions but is absolutely useless for protecting you from accidental loss of tab information. If you have a lot of tabs open and you'd like some auto-backup of them... this is not for you.
Other add-ons will take regular recordings of your open tabs and/or history so you can restore them later in case of accidental crashes or shutdowns... this does none of that no matter what settings are enabled.
If you're someone that obsessively manually saves your work though this is a great option.Developer response
posted 4 years agoHi. Even though you might expect that as a main feature the addon description clearly states that you have to "Save them", at least that's the main reason of the addon. Now, I really don't know how to describe that better. Getting a 2 star rating for not having a feature that I never intended to add is quite odd.
Of course, there is a secondary aspect of the addon, the history tab will constantly save each 15 seconds (or how many you set) your current active session and you can find it there in case the browser crashes.
Of course things might not be exactly what you may expect, but that I can't change. The addon was designed to work with bookmarks and saving the session constantly into bookmarks would have been impossible. The addon main purpose is to be a session management tool, not an auto-saving session (although it does have that as well in the History tab) - Rated 2 out of 5by zephyr707, 4 years agoI'm confused by the terminology of this add-on. Was expecting it to behave more like tab session master or session buddy (chrome). When I hit save session on a session with many open windows and tabs it created an entry for each open window all with the same timestamp and a number. Unfortunately I hit the button twice since it didn't seem like anything happened, but I guess there was some delay, so I actually got twice the number of windows/numbers. Are sessions synonymous with windows in this add-on, or is something wrong? When I went to delete the sessions it only let me delete them one by one and there were so many of them I just decided to uninstall it to get rid of them. It's a shame, because it seems to display all the open windows and tabs in the main window, but saving the session just seems to save individual windows. I'll try it again soon, maybe it required a full restart, but I would have expected this to pop up or be in the instructions.

posted 4 years agoHi. I do understand that you may expect something different based on what you are used to, but only because an addon is designed to do something in certain ways does not mean that's a bad product. The addon does what it was suppose to do, and of course it has a few limitation imposed by the bookmarking system that is used for storing data. The whole idea of the addon is to have session stores as bookmarks. Because of this, there are some limitation that you have noticed.
Yes - sadly each window is treated as a sort of separated session when saved into bookmarks. You can either save windows one by one or save all of them at the same time. From my own experience there is clearly not a best description of what "session" means for each one of us. For some, different windows should be treated as separated contexts while for others consider all windows to be part of the same session. No matter what decision I take, if I don't have good support for implementing the features required into the bookmarking system for sure there will be missing features.
I clearly do not expect the addon to be a good fit for everyone out there because the main feature is actually support for manual saving of sessions (as windows mostly) and rename them according to your preference.
If an addon does not do what you would like it to do, I don't think it deserves right away a bad rating, it's just not something that works for you personally, maybe. All I can say is that although there are a lot of missing features that I might add in the future, the addon does what it was suppose to do.
The addon clearly was not made to compete with Session Buddy or other session masters out there, the addon main responsability is to store sessions as bookmarks and provide you with an easy to use interface to maintain a list of them. - Rated 2 out of 5by Matthias, 5 years ago

- Rated 2 out of 5by Panorama, 7 years agoFails at some of the most basic things, and specifically it can't save a "window". This means that if you have two browser windows open, each containing different types of information, it fails to save the second window. The first window saves, but when closed after saving, the second window creates an entry as if it did something, but it's just a useless link to "Session Sync".
IOW, all your tabs/research/data in the second window is "history", as in unrecoverable as an entity. Everyone know that Firefox itself sucks today (trying very hard to be as horrible as the POS chrome, and succeeding), but eliminating all the great and competent add-ons is just inexcusable because we're left with things like this that just don't work.Developer response
posted 7 years agoHi, and thanks for feedback. I don't understand exactly what exactly it's happening in your case because saving multiple windows definitely works. Not sure if there can be any other addons that can cause such an issue but saving definitely works ok. Of course... there can be lots of things that I can't control that can affect the addon but the code does exactly what it's suppose to. I will investigate to see if I can replicate this but I can definitely say that I never seen encounter this kind of bug.
The addon may not be for everyone and I do get that but please understand that your experience with it most probably is not reflection of the addon quality. 99.99% of the time the addon works as it should I would say. If there are serious issues that I can tackle (like the one you've mention) I will try to fix them as soon as possible but in this case I simply have no lead what exactly causes Firefox to stop saving the second window.
If you are able to provide more information that would be helpful (I usually don't test everything on linux and I don't have a Mac so if it happens to be one of these 2 I might have a better lead) please send me an email. Of course, I will still try to figure out what may be the cause for this issue. - Rated 2 out of 5by pjcamp, 7 years agoAuto save doesn't appear to work. It should be saving my session every 60 seconds but the only saved session is one I did manually.
EDIT: I don't see anything on the history tab except the current session. Is there a more efficient way to communicate?
I'm put out at Tab Session Manager for erasing my database when they updated last and looking for an alternative. If it doesn't autosave, then this isn't it.Developer response
posted 7 years agoLater EDIT: Please contact me directly via email (gabrielivanica@gmail.com) with any question you might have regarding the addon. For more direct ways of communication (if needed) I will send you an email after you contact me first.
P.S If the addons shows that "Current Sessions" entry most probably works as it should but might not work as you expect.
------------------------------------------------
I don't really understand why it would not be saved. I mean there's that tab called "History" where you should find the most recent saved sessions.
At this point the auto-saved function creates a new session entry only when the browser starts. Then every 60 seconds (or whatever you set) the same session will be overwritten. If you close the browser during those 60 seconds when you open it again you should find that specific session saved in the History tab.
Only manually saved sessions are stored in the Sessions tab since those are stored as bookmarks while the auto-saved one are stored in internal memory and can will be automatically deleted when the storage (that you also set) is full.
