- Rated 1 out of 5by geohei, 7 years agoInactive tabs are out of memory and need to get reloaded becoming active again.
This implies long lasting loading times.
This also implies that active plugins (e.g. audio playback of a tab) stops when the group is changed.
I just want tabs to be grouped, nothing less, nothing more.Developer response

- Rated 5 out of 5by Upjohn, 7 years agoI gave this addon the second chance, and it works great! The only feature I miss is exporting/importing specific groups in the addon.

I'm one of those people who has over six or seven tabs open all the time, and this makes managing them *so* much better. Thanks!

In this version I implement hide tabs api. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13805896, 7 years agoWorks really bad. This addon doesnt actually just group tabs. It CLOSES the active tabs, then loads the tab in the group you selected. If you want to go to some of the tabs in another group, well too bad, because now you have to RELOAD them again.... sigh. terrible. We just want the tabs to be grouped, that is all. Not closed, not reloaded. Just grouped.

In this version I implement hide tabs api. - Rated 1 out of 5by acorbin91, 7 years agoThis addon is getting worse and worse... I don't know why the dev is wasting his time on these stupid workarounds for the tab hiding issue.... Firefox added the ability to hide tabs weeks ago, stop fucking around with these idiotic workarounds and implement it properly. These idiotic workarounds are just making the plugin do some really erratic shit. For example: https://i.imgur.com/7oWdnuj.png
I did not create a single one of those groups. So now in addition to randomly creating groups (which it started doing a week go or so), now it seems to be populating some of them with tabs from sessions that ended a long time ago. I did not have those 86 or 116 tabs open the last time I closed Firefox. There are even duplicates in those two groups... I don't know where or how the fuck this addon decided to create those groups and populate them with tabs that I closed days ago, but there you have it...
You should go back to how you had the addon 3-4 weeks ago, and then focus only on writing in the tab hiding functionality. All this crazy shit you're trying to do with closing tabs and then reloading them with the moz-extension bullshit is not working at all, and it was a pretty stupid workaround to begin with.Developer response

In this version I implement hide tabs api. - Rated 5 out of 5by chuma, 7 years agoIf you were a die-hard Tab Groups user, this just might be the only way forward for you with FF Quantum.
I tried many replacements for Tab Groups until this add-on came out. In my opinion, it's the only one that even comes close (unless there is a proper re-write of the original Tab Groups for FF Quantum).
There are some bumps along the way - some of them are Firefox bugs, some of them are add-on issues - but I think the developer has been doing a great job of maintaining this add-on and managing expectations.Developer response

- Rated 5 out of 5by Knave, 7 years agoIt's great to be able to group tabs based on what is currently being focused on, and to avoid seeing the noise that is interesting at another time, when you have another focus.
Right now, I want to relax tonight but will probably check things anyway. Actors, facts, etc. But want to leave the planning of the holiday for later. Or things that are interesting for my job.
Happy that someone continues to take care of the add on on the same track. Thanks a lot! - Rated 5 out of 5by Engem, 7 years ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by kingsword, 7 years agoPoor compared to Tab Groups but better than anything available yet in Quantum disaster and makes it barely usable.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Alexandr Zarubkin, 7 years agoThis extension has finally allowed me to upgrade to Firefox Quantum. I had Tab Groups extension installed which was not supported on new Firefox at that time and didn't want to make a move without that or similar extension. Simple Tab Groups are just what I needed. Allows to group tabs, to switch groups, doesn't load all tabs in group but only active one (saves RAM).
To all unsatisfied reviewers:
* Tabs loss is not due to this extension, this is an acknowledged Firefox bug. The extension author has shown it happens even without his extension. It is registered in Firefox bug tracker. The best you can do for now is to check that the extension is tracking your tabs (colored triangle on extension icon), back up tab groups before closing Firefox, and hope that either extension author finds a workaround, or this bug is fixed in Firefox itself.
* Adding moz:extension scheme to url is the way to avoid tabs reloading when switching groups. If you disable Fast Group Switching, you'll disable url mangling, but you'll notice that all tabs are loaded at once. This, again, is a limitation of Web Extensions API in new Firefox, which doesn't allow to hide a tab, only to close it. And when you switch groups, you'll need to reopen them. I've heard that tab hiding has finally been added to Web Extensions API. Let's hope it's true, and wait for new version of Firefox which supports tab hiding.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13755388, 7 years agoAfter switching to and from another group for the first time, it crashed while trying to load every single one of the many tabs I had open, despite enabling fast group switching. After shutting down and reloading Firefox, it had somehow managed to reverse the order of all my tabs, and added a long url to each of them that prevented them from loading. In order to uninstall it, I needed to disable fast group switching, which caused another crash. After reloading again, it had somehow turned all of my tabs into a copy of one tab, while simultaneously trying to load every single one of them at once. Eventually I was able to disable this addon, but not before it had destroyed any trace of my tabs.
So the Fast-Switching option uses a poorly-rigged workaround that alters the urls of your tabs, making them unable to load without this addon. And it very clearly DOES. NOT. WORK. Firefox itself starts fine with that many tabs, without trying to load every single one of them.
This addon left me worse than before I tried it. I would have found a way to back up my session, if I had anticipated that an addon could be this poorly made.Developer response

- resize groups in the global view (manage groups)
- allow user to choose to open the "Manage" view when clicking on the icon (as it was the case with former "Group Tabs" extension for FF<57)
- do not close tabs when change group (it seems, according to what I've read so far, that this is a limitation due to Firefox... yeah, this is improvement... but no problem, proprietary 3rd party tools like Pocket are embedded...)
Regex filters are VERY appreciated! Keep your groups clean and make sure your github tabs are always with their scrutinizer-ci friend :)
EDIT (2019-01-16) : I've FINALLY updated Firefox (had to update Fedora 26 -> 29) and I must say that it's very nice when using this (not so) new hidden tabs API. Thanks a lot for the great job !
However, I'm still waiting for free arrangement (hopefully with group resize in the "Manage" view) and the possibility to directly open the "Manage" view when clicking on the icon => then, I'll give the fifth star!Developer response
