Please contact with details about your problem to our support here: https://www.ant.com/support_form - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13181125, 3 years agoLook, when this Add-on works, it works really well. I have used it for years with no issues. The problem is, after the most recent updates, something broke, and it broke bad.
As many others have pointed out, Firefox will not run properly with this add-on in its current form. Reinstalling or resetting the data helps in the immediate short term, but within a day or two, you will have issues again.
For the sake of the developers, I sincerely hope they can fix the issue. For now, I'm afraid I have to leave this disabled until whatever the problem is gets fixed.
EDIT: It's been about 2 months and I'm afraid to say that this add-on is still very very broken. I cant tell you how or why, but invariably (even after a fresh install) It will slow Firefox down to a crawl after being active for a day or so.
Further, every time this happens it causes my computer to freeze on shut down and start up. Ill have to power cycle a few times to get things working again. This has happened 100% of the time ever since the issues with this Add-on have started. It is fixed 100% of the time when the add-on is disabled.
It saddens me greatly, but I think this is officially a lost cause.Developer response

Please contact with details about your problem to our support here: https://www.ant.com/support_form - Rated 1 out of 5by phoenix, 3 years agoI'm not a techie, so I wasn't able to determine the cause of my recent PC problems and inability to get web pages to download prior to reading about the similar experiences of many others here with the ANT extension. The only thing my internet provider could suggest was a faulty modem since everything else checked out fine, so I unnecessarily spent over $100 to buy one, and endured the worst week of my internet surfing life, bar none. To the developers: you are clearly not following proper program development protocols to safeguard those who put their trust in you. It's time to start.
Developer response
posted 3 years agoSorry to hear that. Hope you didn't buy it from the provider? Because they could easily determine connectivity issues with faulty equipment remotely, not suggest.
If you encounter issues with your web browser, you can do the following:
1) Start Firefox in Safe mode. To do this, hold down the Shift key and click the Firefox icon. Once the window "Open Firefox in Troubleshoot mode?" appears, release the Shift button. This will start the web browser in safe mode, with all extensions disabled. In this mode, you can remove or disable extensions that cause issues.
2) If you use Windows operating system, you already have yet another web browser installed, either IE 11 or Edge. You can temporarily use it to google for troubleshooting or to connect with our support.
We're going to release version 4.13 soon, and if the issue is gone, we shall provide detailed information on it in the release notes. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14189028, 3 years ago
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13581763, 3 years agoSlight improvement since the app was ruined with previous update. Please bring it back to how it was before the totally unnecessary 'improvements' which spoiled a once 5 star app. When something isn't broke, it doesn't require developer 'fixing'. I will wait for another update and hope things return to how they once were, when it was 5 star worthy. Any chance of a link to the original Ant Video before it was destroyed with recent updates? 98% of users saying virtually the same thing. 2% still giving 5 stars..all I can say is wow, doesn't seem genuine at all. Will definitely give 5 stars if you return things back to normal.

等更新完好使了再回来改评价 - Rated 1 out of 5by cherrjus, 3 years agoRecent update caused memory leak BAD...Dont tell me to update Native app..that is up to date. It is this extension via troubleshooting mode. Normal memory load is less than a gig. Enable this one extension and it skyrockets to 5GB immediately then crawls its way up to 8GB before browser is unusable and I need to kill the leaking process.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 17226500, 3 years agoI found out this evening that this extension was causing Firefox to slow to a crawl. Thank goodness troubleshooting mode is there. I had to use that to finish removing this from the browser and made sure to report it for slowing down my computer.. You broke this extension with that terrible update. When it does load which is rarely. It loads every single video which can no longer be cleared. Your nonsense fixes are not worth the time based on the complaints i have read. Roll this useless update back completely since you can't get it to work properly and i will come back.

Do not hesitate to contact to our support in case of nay issues: https://www.ant.com/support_form- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 14203657, 3 years agoAfter a recent update, I have no idea how to clear the history of video list. I tried "hard reset" or whatever it was but, history keeps on adding up to hundreds. I know any programs will data-mine. But, after you are done, let me just erase them simply like used to. Oh, I just now, literally just now, found that there is a trash can icon at the top, now. Will see if it can clear things up.
Developer response

- Rated 1 out of 5by Frank, 3 years agoAVD used to be Perfect! I could download it, use it, get the video file, and view it. It worked. Now, with every update it's getting worse and worse! Not only does it not work no more, my computer crashes so bad my only option is to hold down the power button and restart my computer. Why?! Why did you guys have to mess with perfection? It was perfect, it didn't need any updates! Now, your latest update needs to be updated again because not only does it not work, it causes my computer to crash!
Developer Response: Well sir what you need to do is...
No! What you need to do is re-upload "AVD-NativeApp-3.3.40-Release" Leave AMD alone and work on a different project. This gonna be like "Adobe Flash" just keep messing with it till you destroy it.Developer response

Developer response

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and hope for your understanding.
The issue with overload is related to the cache from previous add-on versions.
Please try to reinstall AVD add-on and Native Application and reset the data at the menu Settings - Reset, using WIPE OUT AND RESET button.
This will delete any data in the extension storage, and reload the extension.

posted 3 years agoIf you encounter the issue with RAM usage again, check if there is a child process called ffprobe.exe running and consuming CPU and virtual memory.
Don't use default task manager for reviewing process, use Process Explorer from Microsoft (former Systinternals):
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer
It provides a much better view of system processes.
If you see ffprobe.exe hanging under firefox.exe and consuming resources, kill it and then go to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Ant.com\Ant Video downloader and delete ffprobe.exe
You will have MPEG-DASH protocol disabled in AVD but there will be no more RAM issues. - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 14141866, 3 years agoUPDATE 2: It is definitely re-occuring every couple of reboots for me. It is very evident at browser start. It is likely there is some database issue or history issue with the recent version that is instantly fixed if you just wipe and reset.
UPDATE: The problem occured again a few days after reinstall. Repeated steps and now on Build 4.1.2 Build 2 (Jan 11 2022) to see if the problem occurs again but it is working fine again. ffprobe.exe was not the cause of the high system resource useage, it was just firefox.exe according to Process Explorer.
Like everyone, I had a problem with this addon recently causing browser wide issues.
I can't even access the addon menu to remove it either. I disabled it for a few days and then fixed it today.
Follow these steps as explained by the dev and it should reset it for you back to working condition:
1) Uninstall addon from extensions.
2) Reinstall addon.
3) Click on the ANT icon in the toolbar, select "settings" link.
4) In the ANT's settings tab, go to "Reset".
5) Click "Wipe Out and Reset".
6) Restart browser, reinstall the native AVD app if necessary.
I hope the devs in the future can do more testing to prevent legacy extension data from a previous version from crippling the entire browser.
Cheers and thanks for the addon.Developer response

2) Remove AVD
3) Google "firefox remove extension data"
4) Remove extension data
5) Reinstall AVD 4.12. Wipe out storage for the final shot.
Get back if it didn't help."
Before reading your reply I've unistalled the extension and deleted most of the files that had antt in their content.
Reinstalled addon (and host app). Worked fine, so wipe/reset from addon options. Unfortunately after a few hours everething went back to the same shit with memory leaks.
Do you want me to remove all of the storage\permanent\chrome\idb contents? Like my other extensions data?
If the problem persists I'll prolly revert to the old version which I liked better (more streamlined, less clutter). Unless the problem lies with the host app.Developer response
posted 3 years agoThank you for feedback.
Once you run Wipe out and reset, then no need to remove all extension data.
Can you please contact support and provide more information about your activity in the last few hours (websites you visited, video downloaded, any settings you turned on)?
If you're using Windows 10/11, expand firefox process in the task manager to see if a subprocess like avd-host.exe or ffmpeg.exe are causing the issue.
Also, what's your browser and operating system versions, hardware you use? The more information you provide the better.
Copy your review message from here so we can identify your response.
Thanks again. - Rated 1 out of 5by Rushjunkie, 3 years agoYou've broke it. You need to go back a version, not try to create a fix for a problem you can't reproduce yourselves. You literally will lose so many users who will be looking for alternative add ons.
This used to be a great product, now its dangerous, and should not be installed.
