Created a firefox account just to leave this review. I initially installed black new tab and the first time I opened a new tab I got an ad in the lower right corner and assumed it had to do with the app, so I left scathing feedback when I uninstalled it. I have since seen this ad again and now realize it was just an unfortunate coincidence and that the ad was just something firefox did that I needed to disable. Apologies for my harsh words if they reached you. Anyway, I love this app! The perfect companion to Night Eye.

This extension is just straight up epic.

How can the people that code Firefox not have this as a default option by now?

I had already disabled all the elements of the page that you can, and I wanted a dark theme, so in addition to filling a void in dark theme support (with a void), it got rid of the remaining useless bits. Perfect. (well, not completely perfect as pointed out by others, there's a flash of white; maybe I'll try the workaround... but I doubt there's anything the extension can do about it)

(btw it took me way too long to figure out there's a built in dark theme in Firefox, it's just not in the Options, but in Customize)

To prevent the white flash, put the following lines into /chrome/userchrome.css . You may need to manually create the chrome folder.

Does what it says. Better than the standard gray page.
Only wish: When opening a new page it would be great if the cursor could be directly inside the link bar, s.t. one can start typing a link right away.
