Not really accurate. In some streams the number in the brackets (actual chatters) appears to be even higher than the number of viewers.

Hey. Chatters might be higher than number of viewers, but I can't do anything about it. I take this number directly from Twitch from their API. If you have BTTV extension then you can even verify this number with their data by typing /chatters in chat.
