4 dagen geleden geplaatstThanks for asking! Nothing new is actually collected, the permissions in this update are identical to the previous version. What changed is that Firefox now requires add-ons to formally declare their data use, so we filled that out for the first time. The two items are what Caramel has always done to work: see which store you're on (to check if we've got codes for it) and read the checkout page (to enter codes and confirm the price actually dropped) and since Caramel's fully open source, you're welcome to check for yourself anytime. Really appreciate you asking!

4 dagen geleden geplaatstThanks for the write-up, your diagnosis was correct, and our apologies both for the breakage and for the delayed reply to your support request (we've answered it by email).
The explanation you asked for: Caramel recently went from supporting a handful of stores to all stores, which requires the "access your data for all websites" permission. Firefox does not enable that permission automatically, and with it off the extension can't reach our coupon service, the "couldn't load coupons" message you saw.
To fix it: Add-ons and themes → Caramel → Permissions → enable "Access your data for all websites."
Nothing new is collected, the permission lets Caramel read the store page you're on to find the coupon box, which is how it has always worked. Mozilla now requires this to be declared explicitly, which is the notice you saw. An update is on the way that detects the missing permission and offers a one-click enable. - Waardering: 5 van 5door Katie, 3 maanden geledenon ethics alone, it has my business over honey any day, my only gripe is that if you are logging in to the website, you have sign in with google, sign in with apple etc, but you dont have this in the extension pop up, only sign in with email, so you cant get signed in, also there is no option (that i can see), on the website to change or reset your password.
if someone could add these, it would be great, ThanksAntwoord van ontwikkelaar
3 maanden geleden geplaatstThank you so much for the thoughtful feedback Katie, and especially for the kind words on the ethics side.
You are completely right about the sign-in flow. If Google/Apple sign-in is available on the website, it should also be easier to use from the extension popup. The password reset/change flow also needs to be clearer, so we’ll look into improving that as well.

It was about a 10% discount, not much yes but very grateful considering its free to use and the fact that its open source keeps me at peace knowing nothing malicious is going on. one issue i have is that mobile's UI/UX isn't great on firefox android, spacing is too tight. Hope they fix it, but glad that an android version is even supported. Going to follow this project and hope it grows!!

- Waardering: 5 van 5door r64, één jaar geledenNo login needed to even use Caramel, super quick to get to use it. Really appreciate this project and what it stands for. As of now still feels like it's in beta and needs time for polish. I see a lot of potential. I'll keep it downloaded for a while and hoping they keep improving it.

Saw reddit post, was intrigued by what appeared to be a decent, privacy-conscious alternative to manual coupon searching. Was good at first, no login requirement & started working immediately after installation, no setup required. Unfortunately, after trying a few different sites, it was clear there was no verification process, and all the coupons I tried were invalid or one-time/private use (e.g., NAME40). This is sad, as the idea is fantastic. Would be a 3/4-star app for the design and privacy if not for the unannounced popup, which is ridiculous. A huge dancing advert for the extension I just installed?
+ UI
+ speed (fast)
+ ease of setup
+ no login required
+ privacy
+ lightweight
+ open-source (FOSS?)
− tiny extension window makes it possible to only see 1 item at a time, and there is no way to see a count of the list you are going through
− intrusive *animated* popup showed for no reason on amazon, even though I had already interacted with the extension previously
− no verification of if codes actually work & no voting process (i.e., be prepared to try 15 codes only for 0 to work)Antwoord van ontwikkelaar
één jaar geleden geplaatstHi, thanks a ton for the detailed feedback; it really helps us improve.
Because of your review we have now marked Caramel as Open Beta. This makes it clear the extension is still in active development, though it can already land valid coupons when available.
At the moment we pull codes from public sources but do not verify them automatically. A rating and voting system to weed out expired or private coupons is high on our roadmap.
We never meant to be intrusive. In our next release, the animated pop-up will now appear only the first time you use Caramel on a given site, and a new setting will let you disable it entirely.
Thanks again for highlighting what works (speed, privacy, no login) and what needs work. If you have more ideas, feel free to open a GitHub issue, every report shapes the next release. - Waardering: 5 van 5door ProMod, één jaar geledenmanaged to save some money using some of its coupons.
