The add-on "Right Links WE" has a feature set that overlaps with that of "Long Press New Tab". In particular, a long left click may open a link in a new background tab. In contrast to "Long Press New Tab", the adjustable "timeout" is not lost upon restarting Firefox.
UPDATE Nov 2019 / version 3.1:
As mentioned by Firefox user 15309272, the preferences of this add-on are lost upon closing Firefox. The same happens when I clear the complete recent history of the browser. Since the latter action is performed each time I close the browser (due to my privacy preferences), I assume this also prevents the preferences from being remembered across different browser sessions. It would be nice to have this loss of memory fixed! THANX!

First of all: Thanks a lot for this very important add-on!
This may become the long awaited successor of the legacy extension MClickFocusTab. This was my most important firefox add-on until it became useless since it was not updated to the WebExtensions API.
However, as already noted by a previous reviewer, this extension currently has a bug concerning the cursor in the new tab just opened. It changes only back to normal when the cursor is moved out of the window and moved back again. (I'm using Long Press New Tab 3.1 with firefox 60.0.1 (64-bit) under Linux.)
A feature request: The "standard" way of opening a link in a new tab is a mouse middle-click, see
support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mouse-shortcuts-perform-common-tasks
Whether the new tab containing the link gets the focus (i.e., is opened in the foreground) or not can be selected statically via the firefox preferences or, dynamically, by pressing the shift key during the middle-click. It would be nice to have this distinction handed over to the duration of pressing the middle mouse button. This means: a short middle-click opens the link under the cursor in a background tab, a long press of the middle mouse button opens a foreground tab. This is exactly the way made possible by MClickFocusTab. Unfortunately, the preference dialog of Long Press New Tab does not offer a possibility to configure the middle mouse button. - Waardering: 4 van 5door Firefox-gebruiker 13966643, 7 jaar geleden
