So, I liked this extension at first and wanted to give 4 stars because this button is always present in the image, overlapping it. But then I found an untranslated text. Then, at some point in time, the extension just ate up 2 trial translations, not translating in the end! What if I paid for this fake translation? Would anyone give me a refund? No, of course, this is an ordinary force majeure, you say! Well, the Internet connection may be poor or just the server froze for a moment... But I'm not happy with that, I'd rather spend time on a one-minute promotional video, although I'd be annoyed too, but it would still be cheaper. Therefore, I would rather stay on online translators, they work more stable and for free.

I'm sad to hear about your experience. Let me address your points:

The button appears on hover and after translations and is translucent. You can also turn it off entirely and translate your images with shortcuts, Torii will still work without the button. Also what would you prefer? No button? How would you like to translate images?

While untranslated text does happen sometimes, it's very rare. Regardless, machine translation is simply not perfect and OCR is a difficult problem in and of itself. Sometimes texts have a weird font or size and can't be detected.

As for the translation taking 2 credits and not finishing, that should never have happened and had you contacted me I would immediately refund you your credits if that were the case. I am very available for anyone to contact me and there are 300 members on my discord server where you can easily and instantly contact me.

I e also experimented with rewarded video ads as you suggest but it's really not easy to implement and I don't think it's worth it. Torii has 2000 happy paying customers who use the extension daily and they rarely have any problems. Torii makes 30,000 image translations per day.

In any case, there are many extensions similar to Torii but we are definitely the highest quality and most stable one. That's why I'm disappointed in your review. I don't think you can find a better machine translator service.

Official human translations are super costly and not free. Usually costing a few dollars per image which is crazy. With Torii tour can do thousands of images.

I wish you would revisit Torii and maybe come talk to me if there's anything wrong with it. Have a good one.

Don't install! Pay-per-view garbage!
There is a little patch with a tiny violet dollar sight saying "Some features may require payment". This is so small 99% of the population will miss it. There is no hint in the description or anywhere else before you install the add-on and create an account that tells you to spent money. And also its some features, its ALL of them.
I immediately uninstalled this garbage. The next day the add-on was back again, not listed under add-ons and not uninstallable but still there. WTF. Keep off. Just look at the many 1 star reviews. I bet the troll that created this will tell me off.

I will again explain to you why your review is wrong and stupid.
The badge "Some features may require payment" is placed by Firefox Add-Ons, not by me - I have no control over it, so why are you whining about it? If I could have made it say "Paid app" I would have - this is such a stupid point you're making. Also, the description does say at the end that Torii is a "paid app with a small free trial", so you're wrong about that.

If you uninstalled the add-on then there is no way it can come back, stop lying.
Torii can't be free because it costs me lots of money to translate your images. Text detection and translation cost money, which you have to pay for. Otherwise it's not sustainable. This is another very stupid reason to give my app 1-star.

Torii provides good value to lots of users. I translate tens of thousands of images per day and I am proud of what I created. Are you proud of your silly reviews?

Please stop being salty and remove both of your reviews.

Such a smartass comment. The "some features" badge is added by Firefox Add-Ons and I have no control over what it says - I just tick a checkbox saying that the extension contains in-app purchases. Torii provides a free trial in the beginning, to see if you like using it, and after that it's a paid extension. This doesn't warrant a 1-star review, just because the app is paid. I can't cover the expenses related to your usage - text detection and translation is not cheap. Torii is a good quality product and provides value to over 10,000 users. All of you entitled users who whine about every service not being free are just children who don't know how the world works. Thanks for lowering the rating of my extension for nothing.

Works well. I just wish there was a way I could pay a flat fee for an AIO tool like this which lets me run it locally. Even if it required some sort of online verification, and was inferior in quality, just being able to run it locally for a flat fee on my own hardware would be great.

I have no doubt it's possible. I mean I can translate movies in real-time from the audio feeds. Or get a higher quality translation of a whole movie if I'm willing to wait a like a minute or two.

But I guess, if you're the one who's figured out how to streamline this whole process enough to be usable for the average person before it becomes a standard feature across all sorts of browsers and applications, might as well make some money off of it.

But still, I'd pay like $60 just for a piece of software that just bulk translated them using locally run models.

it is light, fast, and cheap. it has an issue with paying money but the developer is trying to help well. if you want to pay for credit, dont refresh the browser until done message.

Pay-per-use should be written on the description, or the title, or the first image. Instead it's a slap in the face once you download the add-on.
Dev, you're a crybaby that refuses to be transparent about pricing and blames users. I encourage you to grow up and stop being shady.

It does say on the very front page that "Some features require payment" with a purple dollar sign next to it ... Pointless review anyway, since just because it's a paid extension, doesn't mean it's bad. Torii is a great extension, and of course I can't offer it for free because it costs me money to run.

Fair warning: the extension will cost you money after the first 20 image translations.

But imo it's worth it because:

The extension actually works, lol. This differentiates it from the other dozen ones I've tried which have invariably sucked or plain not worked at all.

I use it to translate random jp/cn/kr comics on pixiv. It's super convenient, text in the images gets translated right there on the screen.
The translations aren't always perfect (it can struggle with hand-writing), but it's FAR better than what you get by pasting the image into google translate/google lens.

The interface is super easy to use, too. You don't even need to instruct it which language it is looking at.

Clean and fast.

The translated texts are very readable texts and are within the speech bubbles(other scanlation extensions/sites just slaps white textboxes on top of the speech bubbles, etc) which makes it looks clean.

If you are looking for something to translate those untranslated works, do give this extension a try.

this is currently one of the best image translation extensions, and it’s far superior to other tools. I understand why you don’t allow personal API use, but it really is a feature worth having. Anyway, this thing is amazing, not perfect of course, but I hope it gets even better in the future

Could you tell me how it would be possible for me to provide this service without users paying for it, since you're so smart? Just calling OpenAI's GPT5 to translate the text in your images costs lost of money ... so what the hell do you mean "pay-per-view garbage"?

Alright so I'm using this app for 2 weeks and must say that I'm impressed how intuitive it is ... but also a lot of useful tools makes it worth every cent!

Of course it won't work in 100% everytime-everywhere but this is a nitpick...

AND for those who think this should be free - it's a pipe dream... c'mon it got really user-friendly way of payment - no shady subscription but buying points that You can use as You see fit :)

first asks for your data, then asks for your money.
No option to run local models or an api you're already paying for.

Such a stupid review. Having to login to an app is not "asking for your data". You login with hundreds of apps on a daily basis by just being on the internet, stop being so dramatic. Torii uses credits since I can't offer this service for free, since it uses lots of expensive processing to translate your images, such as text detection GPU models and calls to LLMs like GPT5 for translation. Of course I ask for your money ... like any normal service or business. You can't run local models or APIs because the translation portion of the cost to run the service is super cheap and setting up your own keys is stupid and pointless. The main cost is the GPU models which extract the text, not the translation. You think everything is done as a wrapper of GPT5, well it's not. That's why I can't link your api key.

Instead of writing this dumb review, you could have talked to me in discord or gmail and I would have explained things.

Actually works better than I thought. Works fast and automatic. I tried it with the sits NAVER korean to english and it worked great. It struggled however a bit with short impressions that however I think is because of the model I used

only manga translator ive found that actually works correctly and isn't subscription based. translations on the lowest setting typically work, probably even better on the higher ones. developer provides good support if you have any issues.

Probably one if not the best in browser translator for picture , yes it cost a bit if you want to read a lot of translated picture but the price is really small and its really easy to use , from when i write this review they are the only translator in picture and able to dl the modified picture , simply the best

By far, this is the best manga translator I’ve used, it surpasses all the others I’ve tried so far though it has its own flaws but is normal for all manga translators to have.

The addon itself is excellent but lacks the ability to use local models or even our own API keys. I personally use a deepseek api provider so having to pay even more to use it here despite that is not a great feeling. Other than that, the inpainting and everything else is great, it really looks like its manually translated sometimes.

Thanks for the review! Unfortunately, Torii will probably never provide the ability to use your own api keys. The main costs associated with translating images is actually the text detection and extraction since they use complicated GPU models to do so. The actual translation part is what is done with LLMs like Deepseek and it is so cheap that the cost is basically 0 compared to the other costs. So your own api key is useless as it won't change anything ...
