It's a potentially good service with seemingly all the features you'd want in a service like this but they don't always work or are all even present. I find a lot of the time it either won't suggest to unlock the extension when clicking on a login or password field and even the fill in keyboard shortcuts don't work - its been too intermittent to tell if it is only some sites or just a randomly triggered bug. Also very annoying, when I click to fill in a login and password it'll prompt Windows Hello Fingerprint randomly in the background so I have to click on it on the taskbar instead of it showing up in the foreground all the time as it obviously should. I also bought it for the premium features while the Firefox extension doesn't even have the advertised anti-phishing feature yet which is one of the reasons I paid for premium. So, they are advertising features that aren't even available which I think is dishonest which doesn't inspire trust in the company and their practices - it is strange that the supposedly most secure browser seems to be the least supported.

The above poses instant issues when considering the service for tech illiterate people as these problems are deal breakers. I want to set this up for my boomer mother who has been successfully phished several times but the fingerprint in the background bug will definitely make her think it's not there and therefore not working. Also, the non-existent anti-phishing feature advertised for the premium edition literally takes away the reason I would consider paying for a premium account for her.

These are all, however, grievances that could be easily fixed with competent non LLM vibe coding done by a real human being which could easily bump my rating up a star or two and pay for premium for my boomer mother but for now Bitwardem is mediocre at best and I can't recommend paying for premium to anyone and even the free version's bugs may pose problems depending on your tech literacy.

Bitwarden devs: you're close but you have to fix these things before I can recommend the service.

Recently replaced another secrets manager with Bitwarden and have been mostly pleased with the transition. Something changed recently though and the browser plugins for Firefox variants seem broken / unable to connect to the binary install for macOS. First it seemed like just biometrics but browser passwords are just completely broken now. It's something that can be worked around but also shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Absolute must have. Bitwarden, in this day and age of subscription are giving this cross platform gold for free is mind blowing to me. It even supports passkeys on free account!

I never write reviews for extensions, but a change in the extension has made my workflow impossible. I used to always click the item name to see the contents, but now it automatically autofills, which is something I do not want. I had to downgrade back to a 2025 version of the extension to make it usable for me again.

Switched to Bitwarden and haven't regretted it for a second. The extension works like a charm in Firefox: autofill is instant, and the interface is clean and user-friendly. A huge plus for being open-source — it really builds trust in terms of security. Highly recommended!

I currently have BW v.2026.5.1 in Firefox, and I don’t see any slowness. Even with v.2026.5.0 and v.2026.4.0, I didn’t have any problems with sites/logins. The only noticeable bug was on the saving of autofill settings, which was fixed in v.2026.5.0.
Disclaimer: I’m a developer, and I use very powerful PCs.

If other people are still complaining, it may be one (or more!) of the following things:
- They have a slow or very low-end PC
- They have a compromised PC
- They use some particular, specific sites, e.g., Reddit (?) (I don’t use it, so I can’t tell), which may still be problematic with BW

Bitwarden extension has been a total nightmare in Firefox for a while now with no fix in sight.
Freezing webpages, crashing tabs etc.
