Excellent job of darkening. But, as I use it more and more, I find more I would like improved. Now 3 stars, 20251107.
1. I can not (afaik) darken as subsite, e.g. www.ebay.com/itm. I can only darken the entire domain.
2. I can not add ANY entries to the SITE LIST. All I can do is change the few that are there.
3. new (20111107): I just discovered that Dark Reader is darkening not only the web site, but Firefox's control areas. (The tab bar, the location bar and the menu bar, all of which I display.) This is HORRIBLE. It makes some fields in these very difficult to see. Sadly, all these fields are not named GUI controls, which may be the reason. Particularly annoying since I spend much time customizing ALL the colors in those fields with custom .CSS.
4. The addon is very difficult to manage. There are essentially 2 ways.
A. Left click its icon on the location bar. This opens a Dark Reader control panel.
1) I can't scroll it and can't seeall of it. I use a 150% Windows magnification level. that's probably why.
2) I have no idea what the SEPIA value does
3) THIS CONTROL PANEL DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO CONTROL ALL THE SETTINGS I CAN CHANGE.
B. Right click its icon and choose "manage extension"
1) here we find controlling the shortcut keys
Why do not A and B include all the same stuff?
5. The documentation for this addon is only fair. (Otherwise, I would have learned all the above. I READ DOCUMENTATION for almost everything)
This include operation and use of the addon
and info about recent updates.
6. Functionality: The addon does a POOR job of handling shades of gray (actually all colors, but this is the most common example since many websites lack interesting use of color.) It says it darkens bright colors. But, it should also then brighten light color to retain contrast. Webpage areas in shades of shades are often turned unreadable.
7. Money
I would contribute, but find no way to do so. All I saw was a "buy it", but I don't even remember where I saw that.
the 3 rating is muchly due to the fact that some of these issues I have mentioned long, long ago.

A shame, since it's the only reason I have this addon and until now it was seamlessly functional. Messed with settings but the only thing that fixes it is turning it off entirely. Using a mac.

- 评分 3 / 5来自 boopysnoopy， 5 天前For whatever reason- despite having it configured to be "On", I've had to manually turn it on, aka go into the UI and click on the domain name to check it, for it to work.
Sounds like a minor issue. But I'll often not realize that I'm in light mode on a site especially when I'm getting tired. I wont realize that my eyes are straining, and when I do, I think: Monitor brightness is low, so what could it be?
...Ohhh, right. Dark Reader isn't doing anything again. Sigh
Anyways, is it really true that this addon is responsible for memory leaks? extensions are sometimes hounded by baseless accusations of malware and stuff, but its happening more and more often that extensions actually are the culprit behind browser performance issues - 评分 4 / 5来自 hoangkamam， 6 天前some sites with cloudflare protection can't verify human when Dark reader is on.

- Yeah this is a complete bait and switch scam. It comes off as a "free extension" but when you download it they straight up are like "give me money or we'll lock the extension and also cause physical damage to your computer with a "memory leak" issue." Most of the "5 star reviews" are obvious AI bot reviews too, so don't let that fool you either. I mean sure the saying its "FOSS" but requiring payment is one thing and yeah you should just say "we require payment" on the ad. Purposely wording things in a way that beats around the bush is scummy, but a lot of these extensions and apps do this and it's expected at this point unfortunately.
Having "memory leak issues" due to faulty programming which causes physical damage to someone's computer, and to also require payment at the same time makes me feel sorry for the unfortunate people that are less computer literate that actually paid these hacks $10 and are wondering why their CPU and Memory are running at max load constantly. Use that $10 or whatever the exchange rate for your country is and go to the local corner-store and get a cheap pair of sunglasses if you need dark mode this badly. It's safer for your computer, phone, and wallet. We're in a memory shortage crisis as is and these jerks are going to cause you to be paying more than $10 for their badly programmed "gimmick" down the line. - 评分 1 / 5来自 me.myself.and.I， 20 天前this extension causes huge memory leak in FireFox, just imagine Google search page takes about 4Gb, as well as YouTube page loads 4Gb of something filling in RAM.
after removal DarkReader from FireFox - situation with memory leak came back to normal.
do not install this extension if your still want to use FireFox.
