- It does what it says.
Cons:
- It does it very inefficiently.
- The extension would be much better if it didn't actually open new tabs, but reloaded favicons in the background. This uses a lot of resources, and bandwidth, and I can't even browse at the same time. If I run it while watching Twitch or Youtube, it will interrupt the video. That's a deal breaker for me.
This kind of extension should be able to run in the background without draining the browser. I would NEVER let this extension reload my entire bookmark collection because it would take long time, and it would also cripple the browser.
I wanted to use it for individual folders, but even that's a hassle because it requires manually typing in the folder path, and it doesn't even explain the syntax, and is shows no examples. I had to try several times until success because the syntax is not obvious to me. (I've seen all kinds of different syntaxes for the Firefox bookmark paths so its not obvious.) So, instead of doing all that, it's actually faster to just right click on the folder and do "Open All in Tabs" instead of using this extension.
Sorry, but this extension is not really a favicon loader. It's basically a bookmark opener. I can already open my bookmarks much faster by selecting "Open All" on each folder, so at this point this extension doesn't offer a better way of doing it.
I will gladly try it again, if it becomes more efficient and easier to use.

True, it can reload all bookmarks in the browser, which cannot be done otherwise in a single turn. That can be useful, if one is willing to leave the browser run unattended for a long time. I don't know if I would ever do that with over 10k bookmarks, but I guess it's nice to have.
I will bump the rating because I judged it a little unfairly at first. I tried this extension with the expectation that it's a favicon loader specifically, which it is not, and in all fairness it never claimed to be. I had the wrong expectation, so that's my fault. This extension does exactly what it says - it automates loading of bookmarks.
"I could write a custom script without the api that only fetches favicons but this could easily mess up things in future firefox releases and would be time-consuming to maintain. "
Well, this actually sounds like what I really was looking for. It is too bad that you don't have the time to do it. Hopefully someone will.

发布于 7 年前Hi, I can only repeat that this is a workaround as the webextensions api doesn’t support the direct manipulation of favicons. That’s why extension like FavIcon Reloader don’t work in 57+. For single folders “Open all in tabs” is the official recommendation for reloading favicons. My extensions just automates this for all folders - which can be a lot. I could write a custom script without the api that only fetches favicons but this could easily mess up things in future firefox releases and would be time-consuming to maintain. Besides that I also check if a bookmark is still valid...
