To view the code of the extension before installing simply click the page action button.This will open the extension in the inspector tool (hosted on GitHub).This will also work with extensions from the chrome web store.

Adds a page action on web extension store pages. Currently addons.mozilla.org (AMO) and Chrome Web Store (CWS) are supported.
