Privacy Policy for Scholar Aid
This privacy policy describes how the Scholar Aid Firefox extension handles your data. The core principle of this add-on is to provide a service without collecting or storing any personally identifiable information.
Data Collected and Processed
Scholar Aid does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information, such as your name, email, or browsing history. The add-on only processes data that is essential for its functionality. This data includes:
Selected Text: When you use the "Define word" or "Read selected text" features, the highlighted text is sent to our proxy services to fetch a definition or audio file.
IP Address (Temporarily): Your IP address is automatically transmitted to our proxy services as part of a standard internet request. This is not stored or used for any purpose beyond fulfilling your request.
Data Handling and Third Parties
To provide you with instant definitions and text-to-speech, your selected text is sent to our proxy services located at:
https://scholar-aid-speak-259434290642.us-central1.run.app (for text-to-speech)
https://scholar-aid-define-259434290642.us-central1.run.app (for definitions)
These proxy services process your request and return the necessary data (audio file or definition) directly to your browser. We do not log, store, or use your text data for any purpose other than to complete your request. No user information is permanently saved on our servers.
Your Consent and Control
By installing and using the Scholar Aid extension, you consent to this limited data transmission for the express purpose of providing the add-on's core features. You are in full control of this data transmission, as it only occurs when you actively select text and choose a context menu option. To stop any data transmission, simply do not use these features or uninstall the add-on.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our services. The most current version will always be available in the add-on's listing on the Mozilla Add-ons store.
