I had problems on OSX after installing one of the updates, but developer fixed it right after I emailed him. To the developer: If you don't want your addon to keep getting negatively review bombed perhaps you should do a better job of explaining the limitations of WE (why you cannot currently recreate the exact splitting functionality of the legacy version) right at the start of the description so that people know exactly what to expect (and more importantly what NOT to expect) before they install.

The old add-on was great:
Have one browser with several tiles.
The new add-on is stupid and useless:
It just opens other browsers and places them next to each other! So stupid! Why would I need an add-on for this? I can just open several instances of Firefox myself! Obviously this is due to Firefox' new API-program-stuff (see ratings below). So the blame goes to Firefox, not to the DW-devs.
You might want this add-on to:
- compare multiple web pages side-by-side.
- synchronize scroll multiple web pages side-by-side
- open links from one tab in adjacent existing tabs
- save tiled layouts which can be re-opened for future use
Opening additional Firefox windows to do these things, and positioning those windows precisely, is time consuming and inconvenient if you do it often. I hate the way tile tabs work in Chrome.
This replicates that.
You used to be able to have multiple pages side by side in the 1 browser window. Now it replicates the chrome way by opening a new window and setting the size of both windows to fit the layout.
I can do this in Windows with one mouse movement per window which snaps windows to the corners or sides.
Like I said, useless. Maybe if youre using it on MAC OS or Linux this add-on could help. Completely pointless in Windows.
If you dont know about snapping windows to the corners or sides, go to google and search for aero snapping. This works in Windows 7 (with snapping to the sides and top) and Windows 10 allows snapping to corners.
This will save you the time of installing a useless app which takes up memory and doesnt do snapping as well as the in built Windows system.
Avoid!

All old version functional and feature need the WE. This extension is non-functional. New windows I can open with the "New window" button w/o addon. Firefox is steadily losing all its advantages.
Seems to function. And I find many of the complaints unreasonable:
I was happy to receive the announcement that "Tile Tabs won't work but Tile Tabs WE will". It's better than having it stop working without warning in FF57, and this *DOES* seem to be the closest thing to replacement possible. The implementation is different (separate windows instead of a single window) but the functionality is the pretty much the same.
Yes, you can, by hand, make separate windows and resize them to make separate tiles, but it's a lot more difficult, especially if you're trying to compare 5 or 6 different but related products. And you can save arbitrarily complex layouts.
Your handmade windows are pretty useless if you need to do a synchronized scroll.
I don't notice any performance difference. - 评分 1 / 5来自 Firefox 用户 13197954,7 年前let's be real here, i have a mouse, i can make multiple windows with said mouse and multiple iterations of firefox. That was my workaround before the original add-on cam into my life.
and that will be what I use after 57 comes out, because why add load time to my browser for something I can do myself? nope. sorry. Give me actual tabs like the legacy version, or I'm not interested.
I know you guys are "trying" but trying isn't good enough when All you can do is replicate the functionality of clicking the firefox shortcut multiple times. Dear developers of Tile Tabs and Tile Tabs WE, I totally get it's not your fault that this extension cannot provide the SAME functionality like the old one, just the closest resemblance you could get to, and that it is not you but WE that is just not capable of providing it.
It IS however your fault, to make a decision that a window should be opened for me, which basically tells me "Tile Tabs won't work but Tile Tabs WE will", without proper notice that Tile Tabs WE will NOT provide the same functionality. Let's be clear here - that thing you call "Tile Tabs WE" is just a totally different add-on, and to me it's basically "Tile Tabs" with the core feature - tiling tabs - removed and replaced by something everyone could already do - tiling windows.
Which for me (and apparently many others) defeats the whole purpose of having an add-on anyway. I can already comfortably tile real windows without an add-on, and that was the only reason I've been using "Tile Tabs" anyway. I don't want your overcomplicated grid management with grids in grids in grids, or synchronized scroll, and whatnot. All I cared about was the feature that I could double click on a tab to have two pages next to each other in one window.
If that's impossible anyway, I can also just drag the tab down a bit and have the same result without another add-on, you know...
To be honest, I think it would be only fair if you changed the whole marketing behind this:
1) On the Tile Tabs add-on page, announce that Tile Tabs will retire due to Mozilla moving on to WE, which will render it incompatible as of November 2017.
2) Rename this add-on into "Tile Windows", since that's what it does; it does NOT tile tabs, it tiles windows.
3) Add a reference to this "Tile Windows" add-on on the "Tile Tabs" page, along with a clear message stating that this add-on is just a compromise trying to offer all the other functionality BUT the tiled tabs and instead tiles windows.
4) And finally, in the very first sentence of this add-on description (and I mean literally the first sentence, before the first heading, preferable in uppercase), be VERY CLEAR about how this add-on unfortunately CANNOT emulate the old "Tile Tabs" behaviour because of WE restrictions, but tries to find a compromise.
This add-on gets a 1* rating, not because it's bad per se, but because it is just not what you are telling us users it was. This is NOT, and I repeat, NOT a "Tile Tabs" alike add-on. It's something completely different. Rename the add-on and make the difference very clear in the beginning of this add-ons description, then we can talk again. Until then, bad marketing decisions that lead to vague add-on descriptions and false hopes, leave unsatisfied users like me hardly any other choice than giving it bad reviews. - 评分 1 / 5来自 Firefox 用户 13330411,7 年前no functionality at all, only the icon is the same as prevous version
did not support multiple screens - 评分 1 / 5来自 Barracuda,7 年前To put it plainly: it slows the browser and only creates new windows (and syncs their size).
The old, legacy, version is much better and was 100% worth it. This is not living up to it. Compared to the original, this is a joke. I can already tile windows without the extension. Comparing this extension to the original, we can see how Mozilla will lose the rest of its power users.
1- it is a bad idea to replace splitters by plain windows, it wastes space, and is cumbersome to arrange
2- I use 2 screens and this WE release has obviously not been tested
Splitters are no longer possible with Firefox 57 and WebExtensions add-ons.
Tile Tabs WE has been very thoroughly tested with single screens.
What exactly are the problems you are experiencing with 2 screens? I use the option+shift+arrow key combo a lot, to select words using the keyboard, but since Tile Tabs WE was released, it stopped working. If I disable the addon, it goes back to normal. I checked to see if there's any way I can customize the add-on's keyboard shortcuts, but couldn't find anything.

The keyboard shortcuts on Mac OS X have been changed to: Control+Shift+ArrowKey.

The keyboards shortcuts on Windows and Linux are still: Alt+Shift+ArrowKey. Hello DW-Dev,
I suggest you rename this addon to Tile Windows, the current name does not cover its functionality.
I did see your responses to the other reviews, a few things are unclear to me, can you please comment ?
Is my understanding correct that Mozilla will remove functionality from its API in FF57, that breaks the current Tile Tab addon , without having alternatives in the WE API ?
If so, should you, with support of its 62K users, make more noise to prevent that from happening ?
What is the plan , will the Tile Tab functionality eventually flow into this Tile Tab WE addon , or will the original Tile Tab addon eventually start working again ?
Needless to say, I very much like the current Tile Tab addon, so let us know through the popup window how we can help to keep it alive. Not sure if you can override the "do not show again" flag, to reach all of us ;-)
Thanks !

All traditional (legacy) add-ons, such as the original Tile Tabs, will not work with Firefox 57 or later versions.
Firefox 57 and later versions will only support add-ons that have been built using the new WebExtensions API's (which are the same as the Chrome extension API's).
Using the WebExtensions API's, it is not possible to display multiple pages simultaneously within the same browser window. This is why Tile Tabs WE has to move each tiled tab into a separate window.
There have been contacts with Mozilla about providing a new WebExtensions interface that would allow a new add-on to be developed that is more similar to the original Tile Tabs. There has been some good progress made with implementation of this interface, but there are some design issues that are blocking further progress.
When this new WebExtensions interface is available, the plan is to develop a new add-on that will work much more like the original Tile Tabs. In fact, there is already a fully developed and working prototype of this new add-on. It is still hoped that this can be completed in time for the release of Firefox 57.
The Tile Tabs popup notification will appear twice more before Firefox 57 is released. All this does is break out each tab in separate windows in a tiled pattern, rather than actually tiling the tabs inside the main window.
Obviously I'll adjust my rating if there's something I'm missing, but this extension seems to just open windows and put them next to each other instead of partitioning the content frame.

Tile Tabs WE has the same basic objective as the original Tile Tabs - to display multiple web pages in a tiled layout - and it does that!
Tile Tabs WE works differently to the original Tile Tabs, because using the WebExtensions API's, it is not possible to display multiple pages simultaneously within the same browser window. This extension accomplishes the basic task of showing two pages side-by-side. But you have no real control over which tabs get split (it's always the current tab plus the next tab), you cannot easily switch which tab is shown in the tile after you launch the tiled view, and worst of all if you have multiple monitors, there is no way to control which monitor the split view pops up on (it's always the primary monitor even if Firefox is on the secondary monitor).
This is unfortunately not a decent replacement for the Tile Tabs extension, which no longer works due to Firefox now using Web Extensions. Instead of tiling the tabs, it simply creates a new window. Not ideal.
Hopefully the upcoming add-on will be closer to the original, but I'm not holding my breath. Oh well.

It is hoped that it will soon be possible to release a new add-on, which will be similar to the original Tile Tabs, with all of the pages in the layout tiled within the same window. There is already a working prototype of this add-on, but it cannot be released until Mozilla make some changes to the core code of Firefox. I think the WE implementation is an acceptable, but the keyboard shortcuts really need to be changeable. As it stands, this extension removes the ability to select text properly inside web forms, pages, or any other browser UI text fields. Alt+Arrow keys allow you to jump the cursor through text one word at a time, and Shift + Alt + Arrow keys is how you can select one word at a time.
With these commonly used navigation elements overridden, the browser becomes unusable for anything more involved than clicking on things. Doing development in Firefox is definitely no longer possible, which is ironic given that Tile Tabs has generally been one of my most useful dev tools ...
Edit : interestingly this behavior seems to be a little different in FF than in other browsers I've used it in. Some text fields retain the ability to navigate the cursor, so my initial review was a bit hasty. One particular area I use this feature though is with selected text on a page itself. Say I've loaded an admin UI and I want to grab some chunk of text that appears in the middle of a larger block...I can mouse over where I want to start selecting text and click once. This will place an invisible cursor of sorts, where I can then use the Shift + Arrow keys or the Shift + Alt + Arrow keys to set the marked text for copy.
This is especially useful when the text you want to select is a link, but you don't want to actually click the link for whatever reason.

Unfortunately, could not get multi monitor to work, in order to have 2 full viewing webpages open that are tiled and synced, so that I could use one for regular browsing and ctrl-middle mouse click on urls to see them appear on other monitor. Please add this feature !
