Workona Firefox Add-on Privacy Policy
Last updated September 28, 2010
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Workona Firefox add-on, why we collect it, and how we handle it.
Sign in and account status
You are required to create a user account in order to use the Workona Firefox add-on. If you choose, you can sign in to Workona via the Workona Firefox add-on by creating an account or using an available single sign-on (SSO) account authentication service. In order to create an account, you will need to provide Workona with your email address. Once signed in, the add-on checks for your latest account profile settings. We may use your email address to send you information about your account or marketing messages (as permitted by applicable law).
Using Workona
Workona’s cloud-based browser work management service is a hybrid web application and add-on. The Workona Firefox add-on relies on the Workona web application and servers in order to provide the core functionality of managing and automatically backing up your tabs. When Workona for Firefox is installed, the Workona web application is opened and the tab is pinned. If the Workona tab is not open, no data is transmitted to Workona’s servers. When the Workona tab is open, the web application listens for changes to your session data within saved workspaces by communicating with the Workona Firefox add-on, and the latest session data is sent to our servers for your backup, restoration, and syncing purposes. The contents of your session data is used exclusively for delivering the user-facing features of the Workona service and will never be shared with third-parties for advertising or any other purpose. This data may be used where necessary to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of Workona and its users, to comply with our legal obligations, such as responding to warrants, court orders, or other legal processes, or to improve the service for our users.
User setting storage
Registered users’ Workona for Firefox settings are automatically saved on Workona servers, so that these settings are synchronized between all Workona Products used by you.
Creating and opening workspaces
In addition to the add-on, Workona Products have a web-based application. If you click “Open Workona” or log into the workona.com domain, the add-on checks if the current window is associated with an existing saved workspace and either open the existing workspace, or create a new workspace for you within the Workona web application. Sessions within unsaved workspaces are not automatically saved and no session data within these browser windows is sent to Workona’s servers. Upon providing a name to the workspace within the Workona web application, the session data of all windows associated with that saved workspace will be encrypted and sent to the Workona servers. The automatic session saving feature allows you to make changes to the session within the workspace, then close the workspace at any time and restore it later on any device.
Upon opening a workspace within the Workona web application, the latest session from any device is fetched from Workona’s servers. If the previous session’s tabs are found within the dedicated Workona hidden tabs browser window, then the tabs are moved into the current window to avoid opening duplicate sessions. If the previous session’s tabs are not found to be open, then the Workona Firefox add-on will open them.
Searching tabs and history
Workona offers a universal search feature that allows you to search your Workona content, as well as data via integrations you connect including the Workona Firefox add-on. Upon installing the Workona Firefox add-on, you are able to search all browser tabs as well as browser history within Workona universal search. Although this search takes place within the Workona web application, the tab and browser history search functionality is performed entirely locally on your device. Using the search feature does not send session or URL data to Workona’s servers.
Product usage logs
We collect data on how you use the Product in order to improve it. When you use the Products, Workona may automatically collect:
- technical data and device information—this includes data such as location as indicated by IP address, date and time of use, language preference, operating system, and browser type; and
- data about your use of the product—this includes data such as when you log in or out, turn Workona on or off, change settings, or use product features, like managing tabs, opening or modifying workspaces, or using Workona universal search.
Customer support
We may collect and use the information you provide when you contact us to provide you with customer service, address any technical issues that you encounter, or to improve our products and services.
Sharing your information
We use a small number of trusted third parties to provide the Workona Firefox add-on. For example, we use Google Cloud Platform to store session data and other workspace content, Amplitude to track product and feature usage, Stripe to process payments, and Front to track customer support requests. We may also share the information that we collect through the Firefox add-on as required by law, such as in response to a court order or law enforcement request; if necessary to protect our rights or the rights of others; or in connection with a corporate restructuring.
We do not sell or rent your personal data.
Supported web applications
There are certain sites for which Workona recognizes as web applications that enable features such as removal of unnecessary information from tab names or URLs, as well as easier searching, saving, and managing of tabs. The add-on requests this list and associated logic from Workona’s servers from time to time in order to update which web applications we recognize and provide updates and bug fixes to existing site logic. The full list of recognized web applications is available in the Workona app marketplace.
Cookies
Workona installs a first party cookie that we use for product analytics for all users, fraud prevention, and for giving users a consistent experience when we run experiments. For more information on cookies and how Workona uses them, please see our Privacy Policy.
Children
Workona does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we determine we have collected personal information from a child younger than 13 years of age, we will take reasonable measures to remove that information from our systems.

Your continued use of Workona after any change means that you agree with, and consent to be bound by, the new Policy.
