I removed it since it started to set daily limit of free service and pressurize users to get monthly subscription. Disgusting!

Not actually free; many things that they advertised actually need a monthly subscription.

It's constatly saying im out of free translations when im not translating anything. annoying pop ups telling me to subscribe for premium when im not even using the extension. awful translations when they used to be much better even a month or two ago. its useless now, youre downloading it to get advertised to. Just use the built in google translate from firefox, it still works better than this. It cant even translate the chinese it advertises about, it turns it into japanese and russian at the same time somehow? deeply disappointing product.

Misleading “free / unlimited” impression vs real AI fair-use limits

I installed Immersive Translate after seeing the “free to use” and “unlimited usage” messaging on the product page, and was required to log in before accessing core AI translation features.

However, after logging in and using the AI translation feature (specifically YouTube subtitle translation), I encountered a fair-use limitation after a very short period of normal usage.

While the pricing page does mention “fair-use principles” and “usage limits”, the actual limitation behavior is not clearly defined in advance, and no concrete quota or usage threshold is provided to users before they start using the service.

From a user experience perspective, this creates a significant expectation gap:

The product emphasizes free and unlimited usage in its marketing presentation
Users must log in before using core functionality
Real usage is subject to undisclosed or dynamically enforced limits
Limit is only revealed after active usage, not beforehand

In practice, this makes it difficult to understand what “unlimited” refers to in real-world usage, especially for AI-heavy features like video subtitle translation.

It would greatly improve transparency if the product:

Clearly defines AI usage limits before login or onboarding
Provides visible quota or usage indicators
Avoids “unlimited” wording for features that are rate-limited by AI cost
Separates “feature availability” from “AI usage capacity” more explicitly

The core functionality of the extension is strong, but the current communication of usage constraints feels inconsistent with user expectations created during onboarding.

Used to be helpful but now it has a limit you can meet before even using it, even then the quality has gone down significantly to what it was before the update that ruined it, why would i pay when it doesn't even work now?

Formerly a great extension. Recently updated to make the free version practically useless, and removed several useful features.

Does not translate to Finnish even though it is selected in the settings. Recent updates have completely broken Finnish language support, and the extension no longer works as expected in Finland. It used to work well, but now it's unusable.

Used to be a good extension, but they've changed the free translation option to remove translate to English and it translates to chinese instead

Advertising rogue plugin. The text on the webpage was not translated, which forced users to repeatedly perform meaningless translations, thereby compelling them to log in and make payments.

A few months to a year ago I would have rated this 5 stars, translated great, having the bilingual mode was super helpful for language learning. However, the free version has been made practically useless recently. It randomly doesn't translate, or translates into other random languages now. All of the translation options available are AI, not even including basic ones like Google translate now (yes I know it's not perfect but I prefer it over less familiar ai models). Hopefully one day they'll see this, hopefully fix it, and bring back some of its original functionality. Untill then I'll probably only use this for YouTube captions at most (but even those have been breaking more than they did previously).

Locks useful translate features behind a pay wall or a data harvesting scheme.
