- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 18768669, 2 months agoworks just fine on for me relevant websites
BUT
blocks amazon prime and disney plus videoplayer. so in order to stream any movie on these sites i have to deactivate the extension. - Rated 3 out of 5by mb9023, 3 months agoWorks sometimes but often I load up a page and the video has no sound at all, especially on twitter, until I disable and re-enable the extension. Would be nice if it remembered settings too.
- Rated 3 out of 5by mtndewbajablast, 8 months agoIt works well but it doesn't remember the volume when reloading/exiting a site. I don't know if that's even possible but it would make this extension legendary status. It breaks the audio on everynoise.com, which was the reason I needed the extension. edit: also doesn't work on soundcloud.com
- Rated 3 out of 5by BillyCool, a year agoThe extension works well...most of the time. Occasionally and at random, while active, the volume just boosts to what feels like a million percent, causes audio to be distorted and extremely and uncomfortably loud. After a few seconds it returns to normal. I lived up with it for a bit, I can't use it anymore.

posted 10 months agoThis shouldn't be an issue with the plugin.
Not sure why you're having that issue, do you have anything else interacting with audio / firefox?
For convenience upon clicking, the slider is in focus, perhaps you have a device where the direction is locking to the right? Like in windows if you have an xbox controller plugged in with joystick drift. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 18357169, a year agoHi Chaython, thanks for making an open source and slim volume control add-on. it is needed. i agree, the other one on Firefox is junk! i detest apps and etc. that harm us under the guise of offering something useful.
But i can't get it to work. On one site (movies7.to), it was useless. On another (archive.org), it muted the volume and i couldnt seem to re-tune it. i figure on another, it will also be a bother to rather than imrpovement of my experience...
I see that this is manifeset (aka "version?") 3. And that it is not necessary to give the permission for access to all websites' information?
what about the info on the single website upon which we apply the volume control add-on. could you provide a statement about what website info this extension searches for / analyzes, and how it uses this information? is it linked to our identities? could it be used for nefarious purposes if in the wrong hands? etc.
thanks again. i would ilke to use it.Developer response
posted a year agoAs for site compatibility, there's issues where CDN (content delivery network) has strict CSP.
CSP denies any extension from accessing the hosted resource.
The extra permission is necessary to see iframes (content loaded from a different site in a frame within the current site).
You can view the code, it doesn't see any information it just accesses the html audio/video and doesn't have any outgoing code, it just accesses the tab checks for audio then uses a js to check iframes for audio.
I've been trying to figure a way for firefox to not load the extension on certain sites but its not working it has only worked within chromium.... So site compatibility has been getting worse. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 17327488, a year agoWorks well for sites it wont break
This extension does break bing for me and i found that out after enabling half of my extensions each time and narrowing down from there until i landed on this extension that was breaking bing
so i have to disable it when i want to use bingDeveloper response
posted a year agoAre you using the all_urls permission?
I haven't had issues with the permission given or not but the only real troubleshooting is that as this manipulates elements within webpages (audio/video) and some sites tell Firefox "you're not allowed to".
If all URLs is set on some sites they won't load audio elements at all because of those annoying security policies
On other sites with relaxed security policies the extension will only be able to manipulate audio with all_urls permission because the video is an iframe loaded from a seperate site - Rated 3 out of 5by Alexandra, a year agoOverall the extension is really great, however it would be great if there were the ability to disable it for specific websites or for the extension to actually do nothing at +0 dB,
I am saying this, because currently there seems to be a bug with this extension that if you have it, and it has the permission "Access your data for all websites", videos in the online discord app do not make any sound.
I did check and without the extension or the permission that issue does not occur, however if i don't give the permission the teal dot of the extension requesting it is really annoying, so i think for now i will either remove it or simply disable it until and unless the issue gets resolved
(EDIT)
More specifically, video files in discord(at least ones with the .mov extension) don't make any sound, however everything else on discord still makes the sound with the extension activeDeveloper response
posted a year agoThat's why such things are optional...
I have tried on discord, without issue, both with the extension enabled w/ optional permissions and without.
Alternatively to setting in the optional permissions, I think you can toggle it on a per site basis, by right clicking the extension and clicking "always on on *.com"
Sadly there's no method to quickly toggle the permissions on FF, I tried looking into setting a hotkey to enable/disable the extension but it wasn't working...
The default behavior is to only operate on click (when you click the extension, otherwise it shouldn't be running) - Rated 3 out of 5by TimJ, a year agoWhen it's working, it does the job perfectly. However, it broke audio in some context. For example, I was listening to a podcast and if I try to listen to it from the website there's no sound, but if I access the file directly it works. But I really like the simplicity of the UI, it's exactly what I needed.

posted a year agoHi, what podcast/site are you trying? Have you tried giving the extension the extra permissions? "Important: To add functionality to more websites, the permission "all_urls" was necessary, however with the recent update to manifest v3, it's optional. If the extension can't access audio on a certain site do the following: Right click the extension, click "manage extension", click the permission tab, allow "Access your data for all websites". This is a necessary permission to access iframes. The extension is open source and fully adheres to this repository. There's no form of analytics in this extension. So don't be afraid of the permissions." - Rated 3 out of 5by Tim, a year agoI'd like a feature to add a combination of "site domain+volume setting" to the addon.
So it automatically adjusts the volume down if I open this domain/any site on it. - Rated 3 out of 5by king kong, a year agoU have to add feature all tabs volume same. When ever i reload my tab volume booster gets reseted everytime
its annoying to increase vol again/Developer response
posted a year agoIts important to have the volume reset, so you don't get blasted with super over amplified volume. Since most websites don't normalize volume, it's a big risk to save this setting.
It also requires me to request more API access from Mozilla. As that functionality would require "local data access" for the extension to remember your settings. Requiring more permissions, generally makes users more anxious about the extension and adds further scrutiny from Mozilla admins.
So I hope you can understand, why I haven't include this functionality...
Please amend your review to a higher rating, create an issue on the github repository, and I will make a release for you in the next month with this functionality. - Rated 3 out of 5by TigerNightmare, 2 years agoWhen it works, it works well, it's simple and effective. However, it completely breaks audio on a lot of sites such as IMDB, where there is no sound, or Prime Video, which shows an error message if you try to watch anything. The only way around it is a four step process where I have to right click the icon, click 'Manage Extension', click the toggle to disable, then click back to the tab I was in. And then when I finish watching whatever video, I have to click back to the extension management tab and re-enable it.
It would be nice if there was an easy way to disable the extension in 1-2 clicks, or right click it and blacklist the entire site in the current tab so that it automatically disables itself, it would be much less of a hassle. Ideally, it would just work on all sites, but I'd settle for workarounds.
EDIT: Found another problem where it really breaks Bing functionality. I can't access the menu, video result previews don't play, and only the first 8 thumbnails load in, while everything else is a black rectangle. Image searches show a similar problem where no thumbnails below the top results load in. If I make my window larger, more results show, but as soon as I page down, broken.Developer response
posted a year agoDefault behavior extension should only run on the tab when clicked. https://i.ibb.co/L9zdQsY/image.png if it's not working as expected remove permissions under about:addons.
This behavior works better on MS:Edge.
Prime video is also working fine for me. https://i.ibb.co/sjMP70Y/image.png
I'm not experiencing any issues with bing.com, the videos seem to be mostly youtube videos and they load as normal. Do you have other extensions installed? Also because MS love proprietary nonsense. I recommend using User Agent Switcher to make all MS junk to use Edge's UA.
Further changes to allow per URL stuff, and caching sites requires more permissions. This was originally meant to be low permission, and the smallest footprint volume control plugin.
Please contact me in the Github repository via the issues tab. - Rated 3 out of 5by SoulessKoala, 3 years agoWorked perfectly for the first few weeks. I like that it reset the volume level between tabs so when I open a new tab it's not blasting my ears... But today it stopped working. Every time I open the volume bar again it is reset back to 0 and the volume doesn't change at all with the bar. I was loving it so I hope this can be fixed. Will change review if fixed. I am using Windows 11 with latest Firefox. Updated everything and not fixed.
