This does not work. My default search engine is DuckDuckGo but when I use this extension to try and do a search from the URL bar it just conducts the search in DuckDuckGo anyway.

It does work fine for google.com.au to be your default search engine. But I can't get it to work as the alternate search engine from the URL.

If the search engine added by this extension is not the default, Firefox should use it if you submit your search by clicking its button on the drop-down. Is that the method which isn't working for you?

Or were you using the search shortcut feature: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/assign-shortcuts-search-engines ?
